Racehorse to riding horse classes

Hi,
I am hoping next year to start doing some of these classes with my new boy(providing the fat leg that we have at the mo isn't anything serious!!)Have absolutely no expierience of these classes or what the judges are looking for etc Any ideas or advice more than welcome!!
 
Its a pretty serious class dominated by the show pro's. Horse has to have correct conformation, uphill movement, 3 good paces and a correct way of going, and be in show condition (i.e way too fat)
But 'normal' people do enter and have a laugh!!
 
Wow that all sounds rather high key (opposite of low key!?!) Aren't there some classes for the people who can ride and want a give a race horse a life after racing doesn't work, and need a bit of help/training/guidance?

The club will be running showing classes throught the year in as many areas as we can. Our classes require the horse to have raced - unlike some classes where it just need Wetherbys passport so may never have seen a gallop nevermind a track - and we ignore any lumps and bumps the horse has obtained while racing, allow you to wear boots if your horse needs them plus what ever tack you require (except gadgets). Horses are judged on condition, their progress since leaving training and their suitability for their new job. This all culminates in the Championship show at the end of the year which includes dressage and showing and hopefully some jumping!

I def reccomend the exracers club show classes- they are a lot more fun and give you more guidance etc!

Thanks AleeDee- he is an exracehorse- hoping to find someone to buy him to do the show classes on because I think he would make a show horse!
 
I did one last year. I don't really like showing but it was brilliant fun. Half the horses were as pp said ridden by pros, the other half were spooking, bucking and generally prancing about-it was fab! As pp said don't expect to get placed too highly but enjoy it

I'm in Kent but can travel to Sussex etc for shows if needed. I really just want to get him out and about as he has two massive splints(honestly never seen anything like them!!!) which really counts out "straight" showing as such. Going to try some dressage as he has fab paces but would like to get him used to all situation ie being in a ring with others rather than on his own, having to walk out and away from other horses etc thanks for all the help!!
