thanks- i no nothing about racing- any info greatly appreciated!

If the horse has won several point to points im assuming maiden, restricted and intermediate? If still relatively unexposed this is the type of horse that could fetch up to £100k at the sales, if exposed then more likely around £20K.
As for races, if the horse has never run over proper jumps (ie hurdles or fences) they can still run in bumpers. Your more speedier types tend to go this route, maybe run in a bumper before being pitched into novice huirdles. Your stouter types would maybe have 1 run in novice hurdles, then gi the beginners/novice chase route. You also have the option of having 3 quick runs over hurdles then pitch it into a handicap chase and hope they give you a mark - this is good if you have a proper chasing type who is not speedy enough to win over hurdles.
There are also hunter chases which are basically point to pointing under rules (same qualification etc). Horses can mix these with point to pointing if in an unlicensed yard, and with novice/handicap chasing if in a licensed yard. Unless you have a horse which is considered pretty good the handicap route is a lot more profitable, and the races are less competitive.
