Hi all, I’m wanting to buy my Anglo European mare an exercise or racing saddle and wondering how to fit it. We don’t have saddle fitters where I’m from so can’t do that. There’s some cheap half tree ones on eBay but I’m worried they won’t fit due to her having quite tall withers. If I got two poly pads and lifted them right up at the withers do you think that would work? I’ve not ordered a saddle yet. Thanks!

I wouldn't use a half tree saddle, is this for general riding? You would probably be better looking for a second hand gp saddle

Half tree's are seriously comfortable for humans but aren't great for the horse. A full tree is better. If you want one I suggest a Zilco full tree exercise saddle. The Old Mill's are too narrow at the front and thus push the back down and puts the rider in an odd position. Zilco's are wider, more felxible and actually quite comfortable.

I put a non-slip pad, 2 polypads and a riser pad under my exercise saddle.

A jump saddle would do the same, full tree racing saddle. There are companies and fitters here who would work with you remotely. Putting thick pads under saddles will give you more clearance over a high wither but likely tip any saddle back more so really not a good plan. A thick shim pad with rear shims in it, plus a more suitable shaped tree and panel if possible, would be better, but I would take advice to get the saddle balanced.
