Racing today

Thanks for this Maddie, looks fab, I'l watch tomorrow when work is quiet ;)

Humble I remember Oliver Skeete, there was such a hoohar about a black guy riding wasn't there, he always seemed like a nice guy. Didn't he take up riding because he'd taken his daughter for lessons and he thought he'd give it a go?

Yes, that rings a bell. It was many years ago, but he did seem very pleasant to chat to albeit for a few minutes wandering around collecting ring

Will watch that later, thanks.

Before that one, there was an earlier cross country race at Cheltenham won by a horse that I think had done eventing as well as being a racehorse - horse called McGregor. I can remember going to a horse show which was on the racehorse and seeing the hedge/ditch fence, which was terrifying to me! Does anyone remember the Rastafarian show jumper (had to google his name Oliver Skeete) - can remember chatting with him in the warm up of the show jumping. Gone off tangent a bit there.

Cheltenhamk 1995 course is on youtube, can't get the link to work.
I remember him, he got so much publicity, far beyond his ability. Mind you I wouldn’t want to jump what he jumped. They talked about him in terms of the Olympic team at one point. I just googled him, he’s an actor and reality tv star now

Had a lovely visit to Seven Barrows this morning. NH was very careful to emphasise no touching anything - horses or buildings - very obviously with Cheltenham looming and we weren't allowed to wander around.

He kindly had all the stars out with Akimos in the covered ride. Jonbon, CH, Impose Toi, the other Old Gold horse Viscountess Nelson, plus Mr. Coffey, Joyeuse and some other young horses that haven't run yet.

We were then lucky that we went up to the schooling fences and saw Akimos jump a line of 5 steeplechase schooling fences. The other horses had gone already to the gallops to do their work but it was far too wet after last night's rain for us to be taken up there. (The field at the entrance to the yard looked like a lake!)

Sounds brilliant. Glad you enjoyed.

Off to Doncaster tomorrow. Have packed my flat cap and my whippet. Do I need a passport to get that far up country? 😳. Where I live Bristol is way north 🤣

Mr Coffey is lovely, sounds like a good visit.

Only time I have been to Doncaster racing was a summer flat day and I felt so under dressed. I was up there for work (not at the racecourse) so in a suit and the array of lovely dresses ladies were wearing, I felt I had to sort of hide in a corner. Enjoy.

Safe bet there will be few dresses tomorrow. Luckily my shooting clothes, if washed, suffice for most NH meetings 😆
