Racing - what do you think of this article


Yes, a retired racehorse she is a little scared of it strikes me......

She tends to look upon her as a pet & not a horse. Though I could be wrong.

I agree about the article though, sensationalised in the extreme.

The trouble with this lady is that she doesn't write the whole truth (surprised?). In previous articles she writes about her recently acquired farm in the wilds of Exmoor whereas actually the house she has bought is outside of the National Park boundary, in a sheltered location and only 13 miles from a fairly big town - its really not the back of beyond as she would like you to believe. So on that basis I would take anything with a pinch of salt!
 
I read this today and found it very one sided. The only thing that got to me was her description of the racing crowds attitude to the horses, shouting abuse at them when they fall etc. If that is true it sickens me. By the way is the author the same female that writes her 'diary' on the back page of mail on sunday mag. I didn't keep the racing article so can't check. The diary today describes how this lady's horse won't let her pick up its feet, bites her and kicks her. So she is going for barefoot trimming. Do you think she might benefit from some parelli as well??

I think it's her, yes (don't usually read THe Mail tbh). I'm sure she'd be into parelli if she'd ever heard of it

I don't think the Grand National is typical of racing in terms of the spectators it attracts. I used to go racing a bit to our local tracks - Exeter, Wincanton, Newton Abbot etc and generally the spectators are a mix of farming people, horsey people, 'the county set' type people and a few corporate types (who had just come for an enjoyable day out be it at the trackside or bar).
I think horses do love to race - my TB will always has always taken on anything cantering alongside or in front.
I think this author just writes to cause a 'sensation'. Thank got I don't get the Daily Mail.
 
I don't value her as a writer at all. She writes in the magazine with the sunday paper, has just moved to the country and rescued this poor "damaged" racehorse. She wants it to go barefoot as it is more natural and when she moved into this farm she had bought was cross as sheep were grazing on the land and she "doesn't agree with sheep farming"
I believe she is some kind of fashion editor? I suggest she keeps to that and leaves racing/ welfare issues to the more knowledgeable.

Yes! Honestly, she seems not to have the first clue. This mare has sunk it's teeth into her thigh before now. She *seems* scared of it, the most she seems to do is lead it to & from the paddock despite having plans for it to be ridden. It's already been to be re-schooled etc

Maybe I'm being too harsh but she doesn't strike me as the type to actually know about horse, more how pretty they are capable of looking
