RAF Globemaster

There is (or sadly was) nothing like the awesome sound of the Vulcan. LOUD!!

Picture taken standing in my horses’ field. Horses completely unbothered as ever, but we get a lot of low flying forces aircraft so they are used to them..

But a hot air balloon - proper panic stations, hate the bleddy things with a vengeance 😡.
i have to say that is far higher than the globemaster was - it felt like i was level with the cockpit. it really was only just skimming the trees

I don't have a link as such but if you get the Flightradar24 App on your phone then select your area and playback you can clearly see it come over and the altitude is around 300ft!
i know it was just over the top of the trees - we didn't even see it coming. heard the noise and then it loomed up just above the large oak trees. no way we could have seen it coming

We used to live between RAF valley and what used to be to be RAF sealand, . We were also on the best/lowest flying corridor between a very popular diving quarry and the nearest decompression chamber.
We had helicopters and jets so low tiles came off the house from the down draft. Horses were absolutely unbothered by any of it.

We also had one incident where American Jets went supersonic and bit too close to shore and blew out our windows!

We had one on Saturday evening coming over the house repeatedly. It was so low that its lights shone across the soalr panels on our roof (we were sat outside) I think it was doing bump circuits or something when the are practising landing and taking off.

I also rode two hunters for a while the winter before last who's hacking loop went alongside the runway. The horses didn't care but they were literally taking off and landing along side us. I was a nervous wreck 😄

All the older houses up near the airport have cracked ceilings from when they used the runway to test the fast jets. A friend of mine who lives up there will often text me to tell me the crockery is rattling on the dresser....

If there was a problem, the navigators had to eject out of the bottom of the plane. Definitely not a nice one for them. What an exciting father to have.👍
I never knew that - probably a good thing.

& yes, the stories from his flying days do come out at Xmas after a few drinks. Even my mum hasn't heard all of them.

And buzzing people in the Welsh valleys in the Tornado was pretty common in the 80s I'm afraid. He buzzed my uncle's house in Warwickshire once 🙄

Can I raise you the Vulcan bomber? If you never heard it go google. It’s a beast. Was riding at the top of a hill along the ridge with a friend when we heard this noise, which we couldn’t work out what it was. We looked across and it was the Vulcan bomber on one of its final runs coming up the valley doing a fly round of the locality as an ex pilot lived in the village. It was an interesting moment and the only question I got asked was no photographs to which I replied thought better keep both hands on the reins at that moment. Was at an air show when the Vulcan took off and I actually couldn’t believe how loud and large it was.
Saw the Vulcan twice in its final flying year the first time was after it had finished a display over Gaydon and it gave an impromptu fly over for the 100's of people on top of Burton Dassett hills. It came low and opened the bomb doors as it came over. Utterly spectacular. The second time was when it did its final flight.🙁
