I have inherited a large amount of ragwort in my field. Unfortunately the people who had it before me, didn't understand it is a biennial plant and also waited until it flowered before pulling it. The field isn't large enough to spray, and I don't have anywhere to move the ponies too, so I've invested in a Rag-Fork.

The ragwort is just rosettes at the minute so want rid before it starts to shoot up and flower.

So, have I wasted my money on my Rag-Fork, or is it going to make my life easier?

I have used it for the odd plants we get from my neglected neighbours land. It gets the roots up well, but maybe back breaking if you have hundreds to do.

Yes, I loved the one I used, so much better for my back than doing it by hand! Am loving being on p/l and getting the 'minions' to do it for me :wink3: :biggrin3:

I have one too, really like it, seems to get all of the plant,as I don't find it regrowing. Shame others appear in a different place tho' grrr!!

Whilst I use my rag-fork at the rozzie stage, you will usually find that they are a lot easier to pull out whilst in flower as the roots are weaker from the effort of producing said flowers. Providing the horses aren't eating them and you get them out before they go to seed, you can pull them out at any stage. (The flowers DO tend to make them easier to spot too!!! ;) )

At my present yard we only get the occasional rosette. I've had my rag rork for about 10 years & I've found it to be really good & easy to use. It takes the root out well. I've never had loads of plants to remove though so don't know how they are at doing that many. Let us know how you got on. :)

I cannot stand the sight of Ragwort in flower, specially with horses in it, it looks so common. Plus, last year the yard was really bad. We made a huge effort to pull it but some people didn't do their fields and the yard was reported (or so the YO said) so will be monitored. I want it out asap as hate the stuff. I've got the afternoon off today so going to make a start and gauge how long this mammoth task is going to take. Got a show this weekend but think the ponies will be having a week off next week while I crack on :/

We get a lot of ragwort and I'm the only person that bothers to pull it, losing battle :/
I did it by hand for a few years but now use a ragfork, makes life so much easier!!

Have been using mine, but find the roots sometimes are so deep you cant get all of it. However, I think its easier than spraying and having to keep horses off etc.

another thums-up for the ragfork.a really sturdy tool.i have also used it for planting hedging plants
