No jumping today so got on with the job I've been delaying... Five sacks of ragwort pulled and two paddocks to go! We didn't have so much of the blasted stuff in the olden days. Where's it all coming from???

I've got loads! Finally managed to talk to the railway line people today, who's excuse for not spraying was they are changing to be enviromentally friendy!! I pointed out it was illegal, so they are looking into spraying it as they know It's poisonous to horses and our fields lie parallel to their tracks.

Not just me then! I was going to spray the summer paddocks in April but my land is heavy clay and you only have a small window of opportunity. The land was just about dry enough to get the sprayer on, then it rained... and rained... and rained...

Yes, our Dutch friends will tell you the solution to ragwort infested pasture is quite simple - you just get rid of your horses until you can find ragwort free paddocks!

Son and I rode in the front field today, hubby came out to watch. While tootling around the field he pulled the ragwort! I intend to move to other fields and see if this bizarre behaviour continues ;)

Sooooo depressing, I have spent every night this week out on my hands and knees pulling the blasted stuff! My paddock is major infested this year and its even coming up in the garden. I pulled it all last year before it flowered and spread the seed, so where is it coming from!!!???

When I moved into my field in the Autumn 5 years ago I never realized the shock I would have the following year, the ragwort looked like it had been planted as a crop ! 5 years of pulling and burning and its still comes through, maybe not as bad each year but I think it will always be there every year. I also have plenty of the stripey caterpillars but they dont stand a chance of eating it all, I always make sure we shake the caterpillars off before throwing it on the stack.
I would move fields but its close to home, and I have spent too much money of stables and a feed shed. So I fenced of a small paddock for summer and the part where it gets bad they are not allowed on it untill winter. I cannot spray it as it like another posters is just not suitable for vehicles, I do my ragwort pulling two hours a day and imagine an invisible line where I have to pull to lol
