I was in the field today digging up ragwort and a couple were walking along the footpath that runs through the field they smiled and joked about me weeding the field, they had no idea how poisonous ragwort is shouldn’t the public in general be made aware the danger of this weed, I was amazed to see ragwort growing outside the gate of my granddaughter’s school, I told my daughter in law about it she also didn’t know it was poisonous, the council are one of the biggest culprits in our area it’s growing on the common by sides of the road and most of the time they cut it down only for it to appear again next year. Why can’t the do a wide scale spraying too costly I expect. Rant over

i know what you mean! our neighbours have masses growing in there hedge and we went and told them how dangerous it was because they have small children. They knew it was poisonous for horses but had no idea it was for humans also and thought that it brightened up their hedge the next day they had pulled it all up so that no one could pick it because alot of children walk home from school down our strret and you know what kids are like

We have lots of open countryside walks here where all the tourists walk during the summer and most of it, if it is Council owned, is full of Ragwort. Unfortuantely, Joe Public is generally not aware that it is poisonous, and certainly not through the skin, and just think it is such a pretty flower. I think that there needs to be an advertising campaigh to warn everybody. If only the Council would stop wasting time and money on stupid, pointless things and rid the countryside of Ragwort and destroy it in the proper manner!

The sad thing is although I have ridden horses all my adult life it was only when I owned my own horse about 10 years ago that I was aware of the dangers of ragwort. I agree there should be a major campaign to bring to the notice of the public the dangers of ragwort.

Technically you could report anyone with it growing - its part of the weeds act and every landowner has a duty to remove it

That said I've been on trains between Charlbury and Reading and the amount of ragwort is obscene.

Guessing that despite the law, no one actually gives two hoots about it!

And then there's the Cynabar Moth, you must'nt forget that!Thousands of domestic livestock can die a slow or painful death but Gawd forbid the Cynabar moth should go back to eating grounsel!!!!
