I have ragwort growing in my horses' field.
It's nearly flowering - pretty colour isn't it?
Much nicer than the harsh yellow of oil seed rape...

Whereas I am moving to a new yard tomorrow where the grazing is properly maintained (you know - fertilised, weedkilled, topped and everything

) so I wont have that problem any more

I once saw a woman and her children picking ragwort for the vase in the kitchen window. I told her what it was and that it's carcinogenic. The reply, "it's so pretty though, don't you think?"

I could pick you a bouquet of it as a leaving gift, to remember the yard by?

But i feed my horse ragwort and have never had any problems with it?
confused.gif

of course, my old pony died of unknown causes, soon after she became blind. I asked on here for advice, but was advised not to call the vet so i didnt

It adds variety to their feed, nice bit of yellow to liven things up

There's a moral lesson in there somewhere. Probably not the right one, though

You could have some of our neighbours, I think they grow it to sell on their flower stall at the local market
frown.gif
Well there must be some reason why they don't pull the stuff!

Hmmm, can't quite work out how you are in Yorkshire, yet by the sounds of it right next to our field.

Mind, I'm sorry to say the lady with the field is going to have a ragwort pulling party, she has one every year, but I don't seem to get invited and I can never tell when it's happened either, as she's lucky enough to have a real bumper crop.

Aaaaaaaargh, ragwort - I need to lie down in a darkened room. My neighbours also love the stuff, so much so that they are going to top their field without picking it first, their horses must prefer it wilted too!! Don't get me started....

Compared to your neighbours, I have to admit my ragwort crop is poor...and getting poorer every year.
frown.gif

Last year I had three plants, this year, just one lonely one.
I have a feeling that as soon as I find the ragfork thing, its days might be numbered too...

I had one plant 12 years ago but with my neighbours concerted efforts at growing the stuff I have now expended four of my precious leisure hours digging it out, with around another two hours to go! Don't tell me to ring Defra - that's been done - there is no one in the area to investigate they tell me. Heads off to close the curtains so I can't see the damn stuff

I've just spent 3 hours today pulling the flipping stuff. Got probably another 3 hours to go. Got to tell network rail to get it off their banking which is next to my field and will have to have a word with the council as its the other side of the fence. I have to do that every year so you would think they would just automatically do it now

I've got 6 acres & spend at least an hour pulling, digging & spot spraying ragwort every day & I've been doing this for the last month, despite having had it sprayed. The first week I spent every morning at it. Nightmare! I've even stopped riding during the dayso that I can spend that time eradicating it!

I have tried my utmost to grow a good crop of Ragwort, but I see non in my field
mad.gif
I really do not understand it, the Council seem to be able to grow it anywhere, do they use some special Ragwort Feed?
