The field next to us is covered in Ragwort this year, no one is interested in doing anything about it. Is it any good reporting to Defra and/or local coucil, anyone know?

DEFRA has a duty to act, even if they aren't inspecting the infested farm. I'm afraid it is sometimes necessary to inform them of that fact. If they say they are too busy, mention that you'll be forced to make a formal complaint.

In most cases, the landowner or occupier will be getting Single Farm Payment which can be stopped if they don't do things like controlling noxious weeds (e.g. ragwort). This money comes out of the 20% VAT you pay every time you buy something like fuel for your car. The wages of DEFRA staff also comes out of taxation.

Don't let them get away with it. It's your money and you employ them!
