I’d be interested to k ow how much of a problem Ragwort is to horse owners.

An unusual enquiry but hey, I thought I’d gauge some opinions. My 5 friends and I are metal detecting hobbyists and we are always looking for land in the South East to search. Two weekends ago a lovely horsey lady in Hampshire let a friend and me search her paddock, we found a number of musket balls, 8 roman coins and some medieval silver coins. Throughout the fields there was quite a bit of Ragwort. It made me think, if my friends and I offered to remove the Ragwort from fields would that be a fair trade for allowing us to search the field with our detectors for the day? I’d be interested to hear if there are land/horse owners that would consider this. The owner of the field was delighted we found some history on her land and is now the proud owner of half a dozen 1800 year old Roman coins!

We'd thank you for it on our yard! It's a never-ending battle. But I'd want reassurance that you understood and were going to do it and dispose of it properly - I'd rather you didn't bother than you cut it down and left it lying on the grass! Not sure how I'd expect you to prove that to me, but that would be my worry. Otherwise, it all helps!

There are generally 5 of us and we’d use Ragforks. I hadn’t considered offsite disposal but I believe we could organise something. Please email me your address and contact details jlynes1971@gmail.com

Tell your northern friends to give me a call, I don't have any ragwort but I'd love my field done. Ten acres in a place where there are bronze age barrows, on the salt trail and not that far from various findings of coin hoards and jewelleryaround Congleton/Macclesfield.

Not all detectorists are the same, I’ll ask a few friends about Northern connections that are honest and trusted and get back to you.

I’ve discussed disposal with my friends, we have garden waste sacks and garden waste recycling bins that the council collect. We can show you the ragwort before we take it away. Alternatively if you have the capacity to burn it, we could incinerate it.
