Anyone else wishing for rain?

The grass has slowed down again here, and although everything is looking greener than this time last yr, am worrying that there is no rain foreacasted for at least the next 2 weeks (assuming metcheck is right!!).

Why is we spend all winter wishing it would stop raining, then moan we don't get enough once spring comes.....grrrr......

Hello, Ireland here. Do NOT want to see any rain. The winter was absolutely diabolical and beyond wet. Finally getting a chance to roll and Harrow tomorrow. We had a puddle in the driveway from September til about 2 weeks ago. That is not a word of a lie. FWIW I do not own the place. So you can well imagine what the fields were like.

No dancing for rain because it will absolutely not rain on you and instead just saturate the ground here.

Terri

I'll wish for rain for you but we are in the soggy South West and my fields are only just starting to dry out so I am happy to have no rain for another month :D

Sending our rain clouds your way ;0)

No no no. No rain dance thanks. Our field is just fine as it is. Can you leave it a few weeks first? Once its dried a bit more I give you permission to do a rain dance lol!

about to plant 600 hedge plants so rain dance please - missed all the good opportunities to do it as didnt get off my lazy arse and spray grass off - due to plant sunday to tuesday - we are on clay and I have a horrible feeling it will be like rock.

I have one wet gateway which means I cant get into one of fields to harrow but otherwise its now all looking too dry !!!

never happy hahah (be boxing to roberrow tomorrow to hack in t shirt - say hi if you see mad lady on appy (looks grey) with border collie in tow !

Stop hogging all the rain! :p
We have had hardly any rain this winter & the fields are as dry as I'd expect them in May  ... grass isn't really growing, praying for rain!

It is meant to stay dry for til at least 5th April here. It was dry last spring wasn't it?
Should add, that a few light showers over night would be kind, but nothing, and I mean nothing torrential during the days that go on for weeks please.. I can now see my horses feet as they are on top of the mud rather than in it! But
I've got too much grass for my two, so strip grazing in progress now.

You can betcha bottom dollar that come June/July we will be wondering where all the dusty earth has gone to as it is transformed into boggy mires, ;)

I have to say that here in East Anglia, Bedfordshire to be precise it is as dry as a bone and I too would like to have some rain.

I had to go and collect some more hay last weekend and on talking to the farmer he said that we need a decent amount of rain in may/june for there to be any hay this year ( he cuts his in July) if not, we're in trouble. So thinking ahead, I am going to stock up next month with some more of the hay that he has, which my horses like and at least I will have some supplies.

I have allready turned my horses out 24/7 but we have no grass to speak of, so they are still having haylage twice a day at the moment. A wet April and May would be good and then a nice warm summer to follow!

The fields have just started to dry a bit here, in Ayrshire in the West of Scotland. ! Please no rain dance ! We have even had sun for more than a few hours. I've probably jinxed it now and the rain will start and go on for the next few weeks - as normal.:o

Well no I don't have lovely grass because due to the dilution of winter, the horses killed the fields! That is why I have been anxiously awaiting the dry so we can get work done.

I'll be honest, I don't care that it gets destroyed in winter because the horses have to be out. And yes their are bits of grass here and there. It's just that time of year when you want to get crap done. I have 5 horses and 10 acres and find that I don't want or need lush grass for my lot. Weed free is what I want and I have to have a smaller sacrifice area anyway.

Last winter was super as we were covered in snow for 6 weeks. Then it melted and, was muddy for a very short time, and I turned out 24/7 at the beginning of March as the snow cover protected much of the ground. This past winter was just horrid with the mud. I had a field saved but a month ago I had to use it in desperation.

Anyway I will steer the rain in the direction of all of you that need it badly. I remember when I first moved to Ireland someone told me their were 2 ground types. Quagmire of mud or leg breaking hard! Trust me I will probably be wishing for rain myself at some point!

Terri

I'll join you in a jig. I want to do my first hunter trial next weekend. I noticed last night the ground is getting hard. I really don't want to have to withdraw. No rain forecast for the next few days at least.

We had a water trough leak 2 days ago causing a flood in one part of the field, 48 hours later a the ground is bone dry again !!!!!!

We have areas of nice grass but the rest is very parched and dry, although I don't want too much for my welshie

Fields are holding up okay, being on clay does have its advantages sometimes as it clings on to the wet. Too much in winter but enough in Spring/Summer to keep the grass going. Desperately need rain though for the reservoirs, cannot believe how low all the ones round us are.

I will join in the rain dance - let me know what time to start - I'm in the West Midlands & we have hardly had any rain - grass started to grow & now seems to off stopped !!

No raindance needed for s wales. Rain arrives and tends to stop right over us. For the first time since last summer, the fields are dry, no mud and our normally flooded sand school is dry and usable. The fields are looking lovely and green as well. Just a nice break from the rain will do nicely

No rain here please. We are on limited turnout until the fields dry up :(

Still puddles on the yard, but the Metoffice have given sun for the next week and highs of 16 so hopefully it won't be long before it drys up...fingers crossed!
