My gelding has some small scabs (individual not clustered) on his face that I'm able to pick off easily and without him being bothered by it. I think I picked off 8-10 yesterday. They're really small. I've not experienced rain scald before but wondering if that's what it is. He's not got them anywhere else on his body, just his face. I seem to remember him having a few last year and they went away by themselves after I picked them off. Is it worth speaking to a vet about it?

I would definitely get it looked at and maybe scrape tested by a vet as it could be ringworm which is super contagious to you and other horses, one of mine had it and it started as scabs on the face and spread. But any skin condition vets usually give you antibacterial wash (imaverol, hibiscrub etc) and creams to treat. If he is living out 24/7 and it is just rainscald the usually say try and keep them out the rain as much as possible while it heals up.
