Just come back from a weeks holiday in Tunisia .. to find my gorgeous boy has got terrible rainscald on his head/neck and chest... what can I do??

I am now planning to bring him in of a night to 'dry out' that way I can apply the aloe vera gel to the scabby areas

Anyone else having issue with rainscald this year?

Poor lad. Yes get him out of the wet weather until he has healed up. We always greece (sp?) unrugged horses backs this time of year as they can be so prone to rain scald.

Baby oil should help soften the scabs as well.

[/ QUOTE ]Hmmmm I will still put him out during the day me thinks... however will keep him in at night... might put baby oil on when I turn him out though as that will help repel the water but also not make him slimey and nasty to touch!! LOL!!

If I hadn't been on holiday from last sunday he wuld have started to come in from then!!

I think it's attention seeking actually - any excuse for more cuddles/pampering and grooming - If thats possible!!!

Poor ponio.

The treatment you gave him last time certainly cleared it up in no time. Sounds like you'll have to be a bit over-protective and have him in if rain is forecast - what a pain for you.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah.. well lasttime... the treatment worked and he was out 24/7 still in the rain.. however this time I am gunna bring him in at night and if the weather is torrential he will stay in... but if it's drizzly/showers he can still go out 'gunked' up and protected!! LOL!!

What an attention seeker he is!!
