Hi all, please can you give me your opinions on the following ;

As Merls is now of age and majority of his rugs are far too small, I'm toying with the idea of getting him some new rugs but ideally want a liner system. So I've been doing my research over the past days.

I'm thinking of getting either one of the Premier Equines mostly likely the Buster Titan 200 with Neck and a 200g Liner - Overall cost £211.98 +pp (from Premier Equine's website - haven't done enough research to see if I can get it cheaper any where else), or do I get the Rambo due which is 100g rug with a 300g liner at £224.95 of a website on Ebay. - Or do I wait until I go to HOYS and see if they have any cheaper deals there?

The price isn't really an issue, as its a matter of a £13, but I'm more interested in the quality. I want something that is going to last me at least a few years. I have seen that the Rambo rugs have 3 year warranty but the Premier Equines only have 1 year.

Or is there any other liner systems out there?

No contest, rambo all the way :p
I have the duo, purchased 2nd hand and a bit rough around the edges but waterproof and it has masses of use, I would get a 100g liner for it it I didn't already have 200g turnout.

Hi

I've used both. Much prefer the Rambo duo - lighter and a better fit for my horse (I found that the PE rugs were tighter across the shoulders and pulled on her withers). I ended up selling my PE rugs as my horse at the time (TB) really didn't like them. I did a dance of joy when I discovered that the Rambo duo fitted my new cob.
Mine are now three years old and still look like new. And you can get different weight liners - so they really do cover all rug needs. Initial investment seems higher, but the overall cost is lower as you need less and they last so well.

What fits your horse better??

I have a TB and an IDx both quite deep bodied, and I've found that the PE rugs fitted much better. Not a duo, but the last Rambo rug I had wasn't as deep and there was tummy peeping out the bottom.

McFluff that's good to hear as mine is a wide sec D so I want to stay well clear of anything tight around the shoulders and especially is they pull on the withers!

Ester that's good to hear as well - think I might save my pennies for HOYs and hope that someones doing a good deal, only a month and abit away so I think we can cope with another few weeks of mini skirt rugs ha ha ha!!!

also - I do currently have a Rambo rug for him, bought 2nd hand and it does have a good fit. Ive never had a premier one so hence my questions

If your Rambo rug isn't too short from him then you have a choice :)

I also like the PE neck covers better as they cover more, and love the heavy fittings on the rugs..

However some people don't like them at all..

PE are soo much heavier too, especially when wet. Obviously F is a D too and I've found for him the horseware rugs fit his shoulders better than PE.

Oh I do have PE neck covers though ;) though my most recent rhino purchase actually does fit F, all previous not a hope in a hell and he isn't that chunky for a welshie!

Another rambo vote, I've bought several second hand and they are super rugs. I wouldn't necessarily get a duo unless it was a good deal though (although I do own one!) - I'd get a 0g rambo and then add in liners as required, that way you have the most versatile system. The duo outer has 150g filling from memory.
I've got a 0g supreme, which is fabulous, and a 0g standard rambo which is newer and has different neck attachments.

... and a duo, and a MW supreme, and a HW classic... lucky my 2 horses wear the same size so they can share & swap as necessary!

ETA I tend to buy the necks separately if I can, and then go up a size for maximum coverage :o

No Merls isn't that chunky for a D either and Ive always struggled with neck covers that are all in one with the rug, I've found the detachable ones seem to fit him miles better. However the Rambo one I currently have, is an all in one with neck so will try it tonight to see how it fits.

Just on the Horseware website - in heaven!!!!!!!

Thanks milliepops - off googling now!!!!!!!! :D

Rambo gets my vote.
I bought a Duo many years ago, when they first came on the market. I replaced it last year with a new Duo but the old one, although a bit tired looking and frayed on the binding, is being kept as a spare because it's still perfectly waterproof! I loved how light they are to handle - even when wet and they dry really quickly.

Another one who's Rambo all the way. Just nicer rugs in my opinion. PE I find quite heavy, although I've never had any problems with quality as I know some people have.

I've got both and much prefer the Rambo as it is sooo much lighter than the PE. However the PE is a much better fit on one of my horses who is very deep through her body.

I think the outer of the Duo is 100g and I have a selection of liners which I swap in depending on the weather (the PE liners fit the Rambo rugs and vice versa). The one thing I do however is to use the PE neck cover as they cover much more of the neck - I find the Rambo neck covers come up a bit short.

I have a Duo and a Premier Equine. I have no complaints with either. Neither has ever rubbed, both fit beautifully and seem comfortable. My horse wintered out much of last winter and never once felt cold or damp even in days of prolonged rain.
I quite like that the neck covers of the PE stay up higher when the horse is grazing. The Rambo doesn't cover as much neck.
I expect the Rambo to last longer.

I think over all it would always be Rambo for me. They are definitely tougher and lighter when wet. However if this is a young horse you might consider the shires stormcheeta range I think it's called. Much cheaper and really rather impressive for the price.

If you want a rug that is so heavy when wet you can hardly lift it and that leaks for a pastime I would go for the PE. If you want a quality rug try the Rambo.

If he's an ID I would say PE they fit them very well in other the look like lasses out on the town in a short shirt .
I have never had quality issues with them .
But I prefer Rambos .
But either is too risky here as tatts eats the other horses rugs .

I've never seen good bargains on many decent rugs at HOYS and have been going for years

the one I have bought at HOYS was a Masta Climatemasta with liners on offer which may be worth a look, The rug is a combo and the liners tuck in to pockets in the outer shell like a pillowcase so are neat to the rug and fit as part of it, I'm really pleased with mine

I do like my PE rugs though, they are a bit heavy but they have never leaked and look like new when cleaned

Shires make a duo type rug which is worth consideration, I personally think its great for the money

My Rambo duo, bought in a sale for £100 about 13years ago is still going strong and doesn't leak. I very rarely use the liner as its quite a warm rug on it's own.

Personally I love PE rugs - have never had one leak yet and don't find them any heavier than any other 450g rug, for example.... cos they're the same weight?! The Rambo fits my TB ok but comes up small on both the Irish horses and the PE neck covers are far superior imo

Just like Rambo/Amigo, PE do 1680D and 1200D versions of their rugs at all weights and I always buy the 1680D which are more expensive, but durable. Just like you'll pay more for same weight Rambo compared to Amigo rug. The new PE range all come with attachments for the liners so my 3 boys each have a big 450 with neck and then a 200 each with a 100 liner - works very well for me

I sound like I work for them, I don't!

My original Rambo Duo is still going strong 10yrs down the line. Its been washed and re-proofed countless times and has never ever leaked. Dries quickly and is just fab! Premier Equines are heavy when wet, too long for my horses and nowadays a lot of reports of them leaking. Think you will always get your money back with a Rambo when selling second hand if you have to. Rambo every time for me!
