Rambo Duo's - Ripoff?

Ive been looking at Rambo's Duo's because I want a 100g rug for one of my horses just now and the idea of using the outer on its own in the summer is a nice idea. However, how can it be that you can buy the liners for just £25/£30 when to buy the entire thing (ie. the outer and a liner) costs at least £165?! So the outer rug itself works out at £140?! Isnt that a tad expensive just for a 100g waterproof rug? Seems stupid?!
 
When you consider the normal rambo (no neck cover) lite goes for RRP £129 nope it's not a ripoff
 
I have a good old fashioned heavyweight canvas turnout with a heavy weight quilt glued inside. Total cost £25 and is warmer and more waterproof than any named rug.
 
The rambo duo is sooooo good, it's the best thing I've ever bought my horse!
He wears it inside and out for autumn through to spring- and most of summer this year LOL so it's been well worth the money.
 
I think all Rambo rugs are a rip off TBTH. One of my horses came with 3 Rambo rugs, all brand new and they were the expensive ones. Well they were just rubbish. Ripped easily, leaked and rubbed her and another horse I tried them on. Waste of money, I'd much rather buy cheaper rugs and layer. Now I stick to Premier Equine rugs (LOVE them, great quality and cheap).
 
I've been using Horseware rugs for 10 years - never had any problems with them and the only repair was to replace a chest clip. I have upwards of 20 of these rugs for various horses. Some are still in use after 10 winters, still going strong.
 
Sorry but I love Rambo rugs! I have always found them hard wearing and long lasting, which makes them worth the money in my opinion. Slight niggle is if you have a horse with a very cresty neck then the neck covers can be a little tight, but no problems apart from that.
 
I think it does seem expensive however they do seem to last for years.
For a winter rug I am considering Premier Equines Winter Buster rug, which comes in 350g and 450g with detatchable neck cover and is only £89.99 , has anyone tried this rug?

Premier Equine also have a light turnout with 70g filling and detatchable neck cover for £49.99??

Also sorry to hijack ur post but I normally buy a 5ft 9 but read somewhere these rugs are quite generous? I have a 14.2 arab x do u think i should go for the 5ft 6 ?
 
I have 4 PE rugs, inc the 450g Winter Buster and 70g LW rugs. All are fantastic and a roomy fit. I stuck with my horse's regular size (6') but he could have got away with one size smaller. Best rugs I own!
 
I love my pe winter buster - I'd highly recommened it!

But I also love my horsewear rugs, although I always buy the Rhino ones not the Rambo ones - can't quite afford them lol.
 
I am just about to buy the duo for £159 including the 300g liner and neck cover..... the 200g liner will cost £30. So if you deduct the £30 from the £159 you are left with £129 which is a bit on the dear side BUT dont forget that all the chest clips and sircingles (sp) etc are on the outside bit, plus you get a neck cover thrown in (sometimes they sell for £40 plus with other makes separately) plus the tail flap and the outside has to be waterproof material which must be more expensive than the inner and it is lined with 100g of filling................ and you can use the liner as a stable rug (i think) so saving the purchase of that too!!

So not as much as a rip off as first seems..... please agree

Personally I'd never spend that much on a rug. With having two horses to rug up I wouldn't be able to afford to! My horses are more than happy in a mizture of shire and weatherbeeta rugs, all of which fit well and have lasted ages. Think I will invest in some premiere equine rugs this winter though.
 
I agree that combined they are expensive, but as someone else said - Rambo's full stop are expensive. But you pay for what you get.

Four horses on they yard live in them 24/7 - one of them all year round. And they are still like new.

So if anyone has a 6'6" one they would like to sell me - pm me please!

I have the rambo plus and it is fantastic,also have had the supreme,the plus is exactly the same but without a removeable neck,why it costs another £30 £40 quid for velcro is beyond me!i have found the plus to be wearing better also!Oh and the plus has an elastic tailstrap and the supreme hasnt???My friend had the duo,bought for last winter and it has worn terribly,velcro coming undone the neck cover dosnt lay down when it is windy it blows up and it looks tatty,that is after 1 season of use,at that price i would expect 3!!!x
