Rambo Fly buster or Sweet Itch hoody????

Lady on my yard has just brought her horse the switch itch hoody as he is normally in a boett all summer but has been sweating under it as it is thick and dark. the sweet itch hoody looks good on him and covers him from head to toe and the material is nice and soft and light coloured. I beleive the fly buster is a bit thicker and rougher material (although not 100% as don't use one myself)

Depends really if you need him to be covered from head to toe (and I mean right up to his ears) as a sweet itch suffer does or a bit less?

If your horse is being attacked by midges he will need the sweet itch hoody for complete cover ;)
The fly buster doesn't go right up the neck so leaves areas under attack :(

great advice...seems the sweet tich hoody will be best for the job.

Can anyone advise about how hot horses get under them? (Given current weather!)

Sweet itch hoody is great! Its white so reflects the light really well and they dont get hot. There is a horse at my yard in one and he is fine. Also had my loan cob who was black in one and he was actually cooler in his rug in the hot weather.

The Rambo Sweet Itch Hoody has been a huge disappointment to me :( :(

1) It rubs his neck - he has bald patches on his neck, because its too tight, and he is a TB so hardly a heavyset type, who you might expect to have a thicker neck!

2) The ear holes are too small and close together, putting pressure on his ears so I don’t use them.

3) The canvas type fabric is very dense and does not allow much (if any) breeze through and he sweats and overheats in hot weather. The boett rug is better and does seem to not overheat the horses as badly as the Rambo sweetitch hoody.

4) But.. Worse of all, is that although the fabric is made of a dense and tight weave, it is very thin, and horseflies bite through as easily as if he was not wearing it at all. I have just had to give him several days off as horsefly bites are across his back and they bit him straight through the Rambo Sweet Itch hoody.

I usually love horseware, but this was a terrible waste of money :( :( :(

i think the Sweet Itch Hoody is absolutely brilliant, my girl's in her 2nd summer in hers and it's like new, never rubs (unlike the cheapo Shires fly rug i bought for my other mare, total waste of money), she never sweats in it, and hasn't been bitten through it. highly recommended, won't waste my money on something cheaper again.

I have the sweet itch hoody for my mare and the pony, and I do like it, as it gives complete coverage. I've not had any problems with my two over heating.

I went to get another hoody for my arab a few weeks ago, but ended coming away with a fly buster, as it was reduced hugely. This has done really well on the arab - he is a bit of a fuss with rugs in general, and he seems very happy in his fly buster.

I think if you have midges go for the hoody though :)

I think I need to take and post on here some photo's of my poor horse to show you the bald patches the sweet itch hoody has caused him, and all of the horsefly swellings which have happened whilst he's been wearing it.

My boy is an especially sensitive chap, but he's had much more trouble this year since wearing the Rambo Hoody, compared to the wetherbeta with the softer, lighter, raised mesh fabric he wore last year.

Thanks all for the additional reviews...it really helps, positive and negative are all valid views. So thanks!

My lad is a 14 hh Gypsy cob so on the wide side! It seems he needs a 6ft one from measureing him today but given that several online reviews have said they come up narrow I am wondering if I should go for 6 ft 3????

I have come to the conclusion that he needs one as today I found 2 small but open sores hidden deep in his massive mane and I am panicking it is the start of sweet itch! He has been itching his tail this past week and I have noticed that on the soft pink skin between his back legs and around his sheath has hundreds (literally hundreds) of tiny little bite scabs spread across the whole area.

I have never had a horse with sweet itch before and surprisingly not come across anyone dealing with it since I was a child. So I am currently doing more reading...but I am thinking then that the Hoody it the way to go.

My horse is a 17.2 I/D x TB so quite a chunky chappie :) I have tried the cheaper fly rugs with no success, they usually end up rubbing him, the hoody on the other hand has never rubbed and even in all the hot weather last week he didn't sweat. At the mo there is no other rug that I would trust to give my horse the relief he needs from the midges.

Another thumbs up for the sweet itch hoodie. I have two cobs wearing them, both sweet itch sufferers. I find I need a 6.3 for the 15hh cob and 6.3 for the 15.2.

I do agree about the ear holes and have enlarged them for my two.

Had boetts for years but prefer these, I do use the boett hoods though.

This must be a worse ever year for horseflies. grrr.
