can anybody clear up a debate for me. ive been told that the rambo newmarket fleeces are the equivilant to a 300g rug but then ive been told its a 200g and also its no different to a normal fleece. can anyone shed any light on this? thanks

Cant answer the g of the rug but I have the newmarket competition sheet and its gorgeous, double fleece thickness, so if the rug is the same as the sheet then it is definately not just a normal fleece. I have a Masta fleece and its nothing like the thickness or quality.

i have the fleece and a weatherbeeta fleece and agree that it feels warmer. its just a debate we are having on my yard and cant seem to find anything on internet. the fleece is definatly warmer as i have the stable sheet as well.

Its a good warm fleece, better than most average fleeces, but I wouldn't say my horses are as warm in it as they are in their everyday 300g rugs.

Could you email Rambo?

Its a good Q I often wonder about this with various rugs (eg thermatex). I'd say I treat it as the equivalent of a 100g-150g stable rug (w/o neck), however it could well actually match a usual 200g+ stable rug, but I use a liner system and find a 100g outer with 100g liner to be warmer than the rambo fleece. But theres more air being trapped between 2 layers, and I think PE are warmer than many other rugs anyway due to the material of the stable rug outer. Be interesting to know what rambo said about it :).

rambo sent me this answer

many thanks for your enquiry

The fleece is a 600g bonded fleece hence its thickness and warmth however we can't compare it to the weight of a rug as these weights are determined by the fill.

The NM fleece is an extremely warm cooler and perfect for those cold winter days to ensure your horse doesn't chill.

I would never leave a fleece on instead of a stable rug - i'd be afraid it would get ruined? i'd keep it just for after work or for show. do you use one instead of a stable rug?
