I wouln't get either, I have a Rambo Plus heavy that I can use the liners under to make a super heavy rug for my clipped out TB. When I had the duo it wasn't heavy enought for him in the worse of the weather, guess it depends on how cold your horse gets though.

I have a Duo and love it! Would never get another rug!

It comes with a 300g liner and the rug is 100g. I have additional 100g and 200g liners and you can put more than one liner in if you need to, but usually 400g total is enough.

I have 2 Rambo Duos, one is the original navy blue one and the other is a newer brown/cream one. I I love them, far superior to any other rug I have had. I've just bought the 400g liner for this winter and if that wasnt warm enough then I would double this up with the other liners I have. My navy one is 5yrs old now and has never leaked, washes and re-proofs like new, I love them!

Iv got 2 duos and a Rambo plus heavy for 3 off mine. I love the duos but do find putting the liners on a bit fidley at times. What I also like is when it's really cold if you do use stable rugs you can just take off the top waterproff rug and keep the liner on underneath so you don't strip them completely. I won't buy any other rug now apart from Rambos or rhinos for the little ponies. Great fit

I love my duo. Always waterproof (never leaks), always warm yet it feels quite lightweight, use the liners under the stable rug. Fantastic. Also, it dries really quickly when wet. Mine is 4 years old.

Only slight observation is the belly straps are always too long and I have to sew them up.

Optima is very expensive!

So is there such a thing as an Optima Duo, or have I got that wrong?

Sort of... looked it up on google as I hadn't heard of the Optimo and it says "Liner System - 400 gram liner included"

I do rate Rambo rugs. I have a Supreme which was bought in 2003 and its still going strong. Chances are rug is going to out live the horse (who's 19 next year);)

Ive got the Rambo Optimo - it came out last year - same liner system as the duo but much better shoulder dart, comes very high up on the shoulder to allow total freedom of movement.

I ideally want another of these as her rambo heavyweight trusses her up like turkey by comparison as it doesnt have the shoulder dart so is only broken out in dire emergencies.

If a horse isnt warm enough in 400 grams its diet/lifestyle needs addressing

Tis worth keeping an eye on ebay for them - thats where i got my fixed neck one - that could be going back on so the proceeds can go towards a new optimo!

Sorry but I cannot believe that a horse, an animal that grows its own coat ( Iguess if its been allowed to?) actually needs over 400 grams. In most cases its us as humans thinking oh god its cold and wet blah blah blah and over rugging. If theyve got ad lib forage and good nutritious food I just cannot see it.

My friend is keeping her horses with me this year, having never had them living out, one is a TB one is a 16 yr old arabxtb who is notorious for dropping weight apparently. They started rugging in september  until I talked to them about it, only this last week have rugs gone on properly and light weights at that. THey all look the picture of health.

Ah, well... mine hasn't been allowed to. He's been shaven :p (as my non-horsey mum calls it). Though his coat's so fine you have to get really close to be able to tell.

Yes they are but they are extremely good quality and go on for years. I have an 8 year old rambo plus that is as good as new. I dont buy anything else!

The liners stay fine without the loops. I use the liners under all stable rugs as well.
I also agree it's the fibre that goes into them that keeps them warm not the rug on it's back. When I took my ex racer on I was told he was a very cold horse who has 3 stable rugs on to keep him warm, well now he gets ad Lib hay and lots off grub he's actually the hottest horse iv had.
