Are these worth the added expense against other brand rugs? Also is the bug buster worth the extra?

He currently has a PE one which has lasted years but they are heavy and material like, so hold the water if it rains, whereas the Rambo seems light and more mesh like. He pretty much lives in it when the horseflies are out as he cant tolerate them, so he is going to get wet at some point. Im not convinced the Amigo ones are tough enough, they seem very flimsy and he does like to play. I realise any will rip but the Rambo seems a bit more durable :)

I splashed out & bought the Rambo Sweet Itch. Although she doesn't get sweet itch I wanted something that would go over her ears so that the neck couldn't slip down as she gets really large bites :( she also likes to chew rugs while they're on her & the Rambo is very tough & she hasn't managed to eat it yet ;) its a fantastic rug but I've just noticed over the last few days that in this recent heat she is really sweating in it so have gone back to a flimsy Masta fly rug without the ear holes for a while as its much cooler. She's been rained on in the Rambo & I can't say it holds water either x

Thanks for replying.
TBH the heat thing put me off with the sweet itch hoody as my horse gets hot. Someone at my old yard used them and said they were fantastic though.

My horse has sweet itch i had the rambo one and it is quite heavey and not great in rain etc got the shires sweet itch last year and prefer it its lighter and shower proof and doesnt rub at all and even in this heat he doesnt sweat in it but he is well used to waering it

Two horses on the yard have one of these, mine included, both are in the second year whereas the Amigo Mio and Bug Rug have only lasted a couple of months tops, I rate them :)

I have 3.
The first I bought new about 7 years ago and its still going strong dispite almost constant summer use for those years on a variety of horses.

I then got a new one for my new horse having been so impressed with the old one and was really disappointed in the quality compared with the original. Much thinner (still tougher than average fly sheet fabric) and the rug Is all coming out of the binding round the edges after a few months use so that's certainly not going to last (Rambo say my horse may have caused the damage!)

The third is a bit of a tatty second hand one but its ok. They don't heat up too much under them and definitely help with the flies. One of my horses will grab the others bums and hasn't ripped any so far!

All 5 at our yard wear them. My two have the version with fly repellent built in the fabric. Purely because the binding is a different colour and it takes less time to work out who's is who's.

used to have 4, 1 on each o fmine plus 1 on livery..................down to 1 now!

livery and CS kept pulling the surcingles off, day after day after day no matter how many times NMT sewed them back on (both rugs approx 3 years old).

and now figs has just totally give way on the rump, and its all just fraying apart (right on top, so not due to scratching/rubbing).

CS and livery have gone in to shire sweet itchy hoodies, and thus far VERY impressed, fit well, nicely lined etc and livery has not sweated up at all this week except base of ears and stifles.
CS hasnt worn his in very hot weather yet.

fig will be going in to the weatherbeeta super fly when it arrives as he needs a detachable neck.
