I have a few Amigo's for my TB mare and love them, perfect fit, waterproof and cosy without being heavy. How do the Rambos and Rhinos compare?

I've heard good things about Rambo rugs but they are so expensive, however I haven't heard much about the Rhinos and I noticed they are made from a totally different fabric?

How do all three types compare?

I have all three, amigos LW and MW, rambo duo, and my old mare had a rhino Wug. loved them all. i think the rambo and rhinos are pretty much similar in performance etc, and i wouldnt hesitate to buy a rhino again. amigos are certainly of a lower quality and imo the fit isnt as good, but still fab rugs and good value for money

I've had all of those over the years. The only ones still going strong are the Rambos. I wouldn't waste my money on Rhinos or Amigos now as it is a false economy. Some of my Rambos are the navy and red ones

and some are purple ones

, so are quite ancient; but every year I pull them out and they are well used as all my horses are turnout 24/7; and our horrific winters last about 5 months.

I meant to add; last year I bought a Rambo Quarterhorse rug - was as useless as the Amigos. Rhinos are much better than Amigos but nowhere near as good as original Rambos.

Someone was commenting on my lovely "new" rug the other day - it is a 10 year old Rambo Wug that was just back from being washed - been through 3 equine rug thugs now and never had to be re-proofed. You really cannot beat Rambo for durability. My 8 year old lightweight Rhino is just starting to leak but still not bad I guess!

i am just contemplating buying another rambo, my original green one with red binding gave up last year and just wont dry quickly enought anymore, thats not to say its of no use anymore, it definately is! and its lasted 11 years, it was part of the bundle when i bought my mare!!

I have managed to find one for £120 which i thought was a great buy

I have an Amigo - a few years old still in top condition and a Rambo - years old. I love the Rambo. If i had the money i would buy all Rambo's. Unfortunately i never seem to get that amount of cash in one go. A shame as they last so long. Cheaper rugs need replaceing which make them more expensive in the long run. I bought the Rambo in a sale. Best rug i have ever had.

now my next question... will this years red rambo HW combo suit my chestnut mare or will she get laughed at in the field?

The colours don't change too often with Rambos & Rhinos - infact I can pretty much identify the weight/age of rugs by colour & binding

I'm quite shocked by how poor my Rambo Quarterhorse rug is - hardly used last year as we were on restricted turnout so her elderly Mark Todd was adequate.
The velcro is coming off the front and one of the other mares has trashed the tail strap on hers. Also they're not very warm, particularly for something as fine skinned as a QH
Not what you expect from Rambo, certainly not for £100+

I have Amigos for my boy - all weights and am very pleased with them.

I bought a Rhino H/W stable rug last year because I wanted a neck piece but don't like the fit as much and it rubbed his mane

I have emailed Horseware asking if there is an Amigo H/W T/O with integrated neck in the pipeline and my pony is available for product testing

Ive got a LWT Amigo, and MWT Rhino and a HWT amigo. The AMigos are excellent fit and stay waterproof, but I love my RHino rug. It keeps him warm in all weathers fits beautifully and hasnt got a mark on it after 3 yrs of pretty boisterous use!!! Had one for my cob too, and I imagine it is still going strong with him now

I would never buy anything other than Rambo and Rhino rugs for my horses now - absolutely love them

They last for years, and my girsl are out 24/7 - Star is 22 and hunter clipped and a H/W keeps her plenty snug

Just a shame Beans has gone and outgrown all hers so I have to replace them all in bigger sizes!! ARGH!!!

Tia has two Amigos (standard fit LW and MW turnouts) which are doing the job fine, but will probably invest in some rhino rugs to see her through the winter.

Ferd has had Rhino MW Wug and HW full-neck for best part of 8 years now (the purple/green check style ones) and both rugs are still waterproof, warm and don't rub at all. There are a few patches put on from destructive field mate incidents, but in no way need replacing.

I think they are great rugs, and there's little reason to try any other brand...

The thing is - I am convinced that the rambo cut is getting skimpier!!!
Two winters ago I bought both my mares new rambos, and they were llike miniskirts on them. Now granted one is a IDx but is fairly fit and tucked up over the winter, and the other is a TB.
Last winter I bought them each a premier equine rug, and they are soo much deeper. Their upper legs and shoulders aren't caked with mud any more.

I am actually debating putting the 2 rambos on ebay, as they are as new but just don't fit.

ANyone after a 6' or a 6'9"???
