Ive always had Rambo's and love them, but im thinking of maybe trying a Rhino or Amigo t/o (not sure) I cant decide if id be better paying that bit extra and getting another Rambo, which would (possibly) last longer, but they are around £200!

I'm after a particular type (does anyone know of any good sales on or ones for sale in really good condition?) - 6ft Rambo, it must have the V front clips and i dont need/want a neck cover (if it has one, it needs to be removable) in either L/W (no fill) or a very small fill. The only type i dont want is a duo (ive had 2 of these and for some reason, just haven't lasted compared to other Rambo's ive had)

Im thinking of maybe getting a Rhino instead, but ive never had one, do they last the same? I had issues with some very old rambo's velcro being unless at the front, but my newest has a double velcro system (it has an additional strap) which is great, do Rhinos/Amigo's have this?

I have a light Rhino Turnout and it's as good as my Rambo. No difference in that I can guarantee my horse will be dry in downpours. It doesn't have the double Velcro but is a few years old so maybe that's why? It has the liner system loops etc
I'd say it's a bit heavier wet even though my Rambo's are 100g not lite.
I really like it and for the price difference definitely can't complain.
As an after thought I do find it comes up big, not sure if this is common but my 6'9 is a bit roomier than I'd like in the Rhino yet 6'9 is perfect in Rambo.

Thanks for you reply, this is what id ideally like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Horseware...hash=item282e754ad8:m:mxY0x_w8j9Vhf6mWbAtmqlA
however im on stat mat pay shortly, so not a sensible purchase and i cant find seem to find any in good condition 2nd hand. He already has one and im looking for a spare, hence thinking about the cheaper options. i was thinking of an amigo (they seem to be about half the price of a new Rambo) but there's got to be a good reason for this surely! So maybe a Rhino would be in the middle?

I have a 100g rambo supreme (acquired 2nd hand) over than having an extra annoying surcingle I can't see it is better than my rhinos (medium, heavy and lightweights! two heading towards 8 years old, one would be 10 had it not been stolen off his back one day)

I've had amigos too, they aren't at patch on a rhino IMO.

The difference IME is how long they last. I've known Rambos still going strong after 15 years. I bought my mare in 2006 and one of her rugs for the 2006/7 winter was a rambo and bar one replacement clip, it's still fab. I did buy her a 1200d amigo and a rhino around the same time and they both died shortly after I moved in 2010. They were both great rugs though and I have bought both types again.

I do expect both F's rambos and rhinos to outlive him, especially now they are all postcoded, to the wrong postcode :D

If your horse is a rug destroyer don't bother with amigos. Mine destroyed them beyond repair and he kept managing to wriggle out of the last one. He finds them very easy to undo I can only get rugs with proper buckles on now and by certain brands or he won't wear them.

I have yet to test him with a rambo. I don't expect it to survive haha.

i love rambos. it would always be my first choice. Rhinos seem to last well too though. would never bother with amigos, they just don't hold up as well to wear and tear. i've some that went through amigo mios in a day or two

Some of the amigo bravo 12 rugs have the neck fastening you're looking for, and the liner loops if that's what you're after, and are 1200D. Mine has been out in the p***ing rain in his no fill and it's kept him lovely and dry. They are about half the price of a rambo with similar features. I have some of each in different weights and do think the amigos are good rugs and good value, but somehow the rambos just feel better quality. Bindings and things seem sturdier. But you can pay for quite a few minor repairs with the price difference! I had a couple of rhinos for my last horse and liked them very much too, but I think they are a slightly lower denier and the price difference from a rambo made me think I might as well just pay the little bit extra and have the lovely rug...

I have all 3. I have a hill pony out in a lot of rain in winter in a lined rhino. It has lasted her 2 years so far and she is always dry so I can recommend that. I can see it lasting many more years. I have a nearly new amigo 100g for my PSSM horse in wet summer weather and it is very nice, much better than the unlined amigos and very waterproof. I have 200g amigos and 2 horses that have worn them all winter for donkey's years and still they keep going.
My youngster had a lined rhino for last winter as it was cheaper than the rambo he will get when he is fully grown. Very dry, fitted well and no problems. Nice rug.
I think it depends on the climate you live in. We are 1000ft in a very wet area so lots of wind and rain in winter and the rambo's come into their own. If you are in a nicer climate then perhaps a rhino will be perfectly adequate.
Probably not much help to you as I have had success with all 3 types.
I just keep googling to get the best prices. If you are not in a hurry there are bargains to be had.

Thanks for all the replies

I keep thinking ill go with a Rhino then change my mind!! This winter ill have a baby and 3 year old and horsey to look after, so im thinking for pace of mind, go with what i know!! however then i go back to the price!!!

I need the ones with the V clips, does the velcro come undone on the Rhino's with the V clips?

Ive got several Rambo's, but they are heavy weights and i very much doubt ill be clipping this year, hence the need for a light or medium weights

I would go rhino every single time just for the v neck clips at the front! So much more comfy than the hook in type clips that dig into the chest.
I've got a rhino that came with a horse i bought 9 years ago...so the rug must be 10 years + and is still going strong. Has faced all sorts of adventures and while it's not got quite the same heavy weight thickness that I'm guessing it once has it works perfectly as a medium now!

I find the fit of some of the Amigos a bit skimpy round the shoulders. I love the fit of the wugs, I have a rhino mw high neck. I keep an eye for sales, I got mine half price from Hope Valley as it was last seasons colours.

I have both, a Rambo heavyweight with detachable neck, second hand but tough as old boots and snug, also an amigo 50gm which I've had for over a year, again tough as boots, does the job well, keeps the rain at bay and him a bit warm (don't rate lightweights for downpours!).. depends if your horse is a rug wrecker! Mine isn't so rugs tend to last longer!
