Before I spend nearly £300 on one for Bear, can someone reassure me that it would stand up to Boggle hanging off it with his teeth? Has anyone had them rip?

All mine wear them, and they have stood up incredibly well to my gang of four boys swinging off each other, the four year old has managed to destroy anything else on himself or the others in a matter of weeks.

I will say that I don't use the neck attachments because the four year old can undress anybody from a detachable neck in seconds. But that's not unique to Rambo Rugs, and at least they come off in one piece, and survive being waved around like a kite unlike the Weatherbeeta neck, which looked thoroughly murdered.

It doesn't bother me because I don't use necks anyway - I like manes! If I was really bothered I'd just use a full neck version.

I really rate them. I do tend to buy them second hand off Ebay though - they aren't cheap!

Also find the liners really helpful - as they get bunged through the wash each week whilst the rugs

My old girl has a rambo, its still going strong after more than 11 years use. Its been ripped and repaired a couple times, but still the best rug ive bought.

i have bought my mare the rambo duo with all the layers and then bought a second hand outer layer as a spare for when one is wet and needs to dry. it's perfect, as i can make sure the liners are washed regularly .

I love my rambo wugs - no rips or tears although my boys are not that bitey!

although I also got a rhino wug last time because I wanted a 100g and rambo's don't come in that thickness - it's also a very good rug and a wee bit cheaper

They are pretty tough. The herd out with my gelding are utter thugs, the field is fenced with hawthorn hedges with barbed wire in a couple of places where the hedge is sparse. Despite the fun and games, the only damage to any of the Rambo rugs, was the neat removal of a tail flap by a cheeky Arab youngster. Fortunately, the fabric was fine, so just stitched it back on.

Highly rate the rambo optimos. I have a rug trasher and he has been wearing his for 4 years. I find they fit all types from my tbs to wbs and thickset ID

I love my rambo with liners, such a sensible idea and I can wash the liners easily. I also really like the plastic thingy it does up at the front with, I have had no issues with it at all and the fit it great. Total convert!

I’ve had two of my Rambos for 15 years. I have had to have neck cover straps sewn back on a couple of times and th Velcro is now a bit non stick but nothing else. Rhino on other hand rubbish with ripped stitching on neck straps, front Velcro stitching loose and fillet string torn off all within a year.

I bought a new Duo last Jan for second horse who originally had the Rhinos and so far so good.

I've had a Rambo Wug that I bought second hand maybe seven years ago and it still looks amazing, I think I have had one repair done on it where part of the breast straps came off but the rug itself is still intact. I also use the Rambo sweet itch hoody and they stand up to boys playing rough and tumble. Love Rambo rugs.

My very precious much loved little Tb that I lost in summer destroyed my other horses rugs, as in ruined several that had to be binned.
He tried a few Rambos and managed to tear the straps off one (easy fix and still looks new) and one had to have a tiny patch, maybe 10x10 cm.
This compared to the damage he did to other brands was amazing. So yes they will rip if you have a bastard but not as badly as could be

Bought my Optimo about 5 years ago, love how you can wash the liners they stand up to the job well. I have to say I used the medium n light weight liners more than the heavy weight one

Thanks all. Will order a Rambo (btw they do come in 100g- as well as the rambo duo which is 100g).

I'm a little sad it won't match Boggle's rhino set but think the strongest possible rug is required to withstand Bog!

Don't laugh, but I am still using 3 original rambo's in green with the linen linings. They are at least 20 years old. Still waterproof, one has had a surcingle put back on and a patch. The other two are as is. The linen lining puts such a nice shine on the coat. They won't come out until mid winter as they are heavier rugs. I don't think rug lining weights had been invented when I bought those !

I do have the modern rambo's too. Invaluable for the old boy, 3 liner weights, no rubbing and so light for him to wear. After decades in horses my rug room is extensive, but 80% of the stuff is rambo. I would not consider buying PE rugs.

No I hate PE rugs. Have one that’s a redundant spare as it’s so heavy when wet. Horrid things!

My youngster had a Rambo for the winter before last & I ended winter immaculately. Then having outgrown it I got him two cheaper ones for last winter which he shredded within a month or so, so I invested in another used Rambo which again saw him through winter! So I very highly rate them! I must say though, he also has a 40g PE as does my cob which are very very tough & do them well this time of year - I wouldnt fancy any heavier than the 40g though if wet!
