I'm thinking of getting my 14.2hh Connemara a new heavyweight TO rug as he has ripped the lining of his Amigo slightly. His amigo is a little short on him (he takes a 6ft), and I was thinking of going for a PE or a Rambo. The Rambo is more expensive but there is a good deal online atm, is it worth the extra cash?
I do like PE but they are pretty heavy even though my other pony's rug is a 4'9, but if Rambo's aren't worth the dosh then I'll get a PE. Thoughts?
 
l've tried various makes for my horse & ponies over the years as one is a ISH & the other two are natives so the fits are different just like us one might fit one lovely but not another. My horse always looks after her rugs so l've always tended to get her something thats abit more expensive compared to the ponies as they are either still growing or just like trashing their rugs!!! However, saying that you can buy an expensive rug & it doesn't last or doesn't reach expectations. Of all my rugs its my Rambos that have lasted the longest & still look good despite being put through the worst weather etc so l would always recommend them. All l can suggest is shop around for the best deals l know on my last one l had a 3 year guarantee but don't know of this has changed as its 2 years since l last bought my last Rambo.
 
Rambo. I'm looking to sell my PE, just can't gel with it and their customer service was awful when I had a problem. Though at 6'9 it wouldn't be of any use to you!
 
I prefer my PE to my Rambo as the fit is better on my horse. Cant knock the quality of the Rambo as its years old and looks good, its just the PE fits the shape of my horse better .

Your bank balance might not like you but fingers crossed you'll get many years out of it & your pony should be nice, snug as a bug & look gorgeous in it!!! I just love these rugs so going to be biased!!!
 
I must admit having used both in the past over the past few years I've noticed my horses wardrobes are now heading down the WB route !! Better fit , and no rug rubs , don't slide round and the huge tail flaps are perfect for my bottom shy TB's lol ... But having said that my Shetland wears Rambos ! best little pony fit I've found , just not for the bigger ones ...

I am using a rambo I brought for Mars on Freddie which I have had 15 years.... Despite all the rain its still dry and he is out 24/7!
 
The Rambo Optimo..!! Fantastic buy.. My boy has had his on 24/7 in all this weather we have had.. (other than the daily checks / grooming.. etc) and is / has been dry and warm throughout..!

My friends thought I was mad spending so much on a rug, (nearly £300) but it has proved it worth, time and time again..
Rambo every time for me.. You pay for what you get.. (although the Optimo comes with 400g so have to spend another £50 each for the 100g & 200g, but is SO worth it.. Plus its a lightweight detach-a-neck (the shell for warmer but wet and windy days)

(fyi.. the Optimo is Very Generous.. go down AT least 1 size)

Wish I could go Rug shopping again.... :( lol.. But don't need to...! Enjoy your shopping...!!

I agree Rambo would be better quality, last longer but PE are great and I own 3 of their rugs (yet only 1 Rambo) & this is because of price, PE have a fantastic sale on at the moment.
PE come up bigger in their sizes, my LW connie is 15'1 and takes a 6'3 and they come up really long so cover their tummies well.

Where did you find the good deal online? I'm on a new rambo hunt as well!

OP I'm sure your horse will love you. I made the mistake of choosing a PE. I feel so sorry for my lad that I cannot afford to replace it as yet.

As far as the wugs go (the rest of mine are in amigos or rambo's) do they fit well over the neck and eliminate the "digging in" of the front of the ordinary rug. Are there any problems with wugs fitting in front as opposed to rugs?
 
There's a guy in mullingar ireland called Joyce's warehouse, and they do horsewear rugs at a very reasonable price and I'm sure they'd deliver to England, I got a heavy weight and a medium weight wug, for under 200 euro last year, and recently got heavy weight amigo, med amigo both with necks and a medium masta for under 200 euro again, I thought I'd got a bargain. Google him, he doesn't have a website but has adds up on done deal.
 
I got mine from the saddlery shop, it was £80 off in the sale, with the 5% discount I spotted in H&H. I went for the new vari-layer as I tend to use full necks (he's nearly white!) but I've heard good things about the Wugs.
 
Rambo/ Horseware everytime. PE's customer service is awful and I think their rugs are very heavy when wet. Never had a problem with Horseware or if you can find some of the originial Fal Pro rugs they are just as great
 
I go for Rambo I have the wugs for a pony living out and even in the dreadful rain he is still dry. I also like safety functions on the newer wugs as the belly straps have Velcro on them and are detachable and also they have the plastic field safe bits on them.

I have one in each weight and it took me three years to build up my collection as I could only afford one a year. They are worth the extra money as they fit really well and seem to be strong. I now want the Rambo wug with varilayer but as my MW wug is still going strong I can't justify getting it.
