I have 2 ponies (one medium, one large) & this will be the first year that they are on 24/7 turnout (before they were on 22/7).

I want rugs for them that will last & are of good quality. I like the high neck cut of the Wug, especially in the face of rain but love the temperature range that the Power can be used in.

If anyone can share their experiences with these rugs it'd be much appreciated. Thanks very much!

I don't know if its just my experience, but I have a few Bucas rugs and a few Rambos.
Yes it's true that the Bucas can be used in varied temperatures without my horse over heating or getting cold but I'd never buy another as long as I live. I keep the ones I have as especially the Smartex is handy to turn out a sweaty horse.
My issue is the fit or cut. My horses come in with wet tummies to about half way up their body in very heavy rain (don't get why but they do) and as soon as they roll it slips and doesn't self right, so they spend the day with a wonky rug.
Loving my Rambo at the moment though, wish I could afford to replace all my rugs with a decent Rambo!

I tried a bucas on my last cob, didn't like it at all. Didn't fit well round shoulders and was v expensive for what it was xx

No help as I like them both! Bucas fab for drying in but Rambo excellent for endurance. Some of my Rambos are antique! Yet till going strong!

I really like Bucas but find that they only fit the narrower fires (haven't tried the extra large neck version on my wider boys). Like Rambo a lot and also Premier Equine.

Got a couple of wugs, rhino not Rambo, I absolutely love them! Got an ancient heavyweight one the keeps going year after year(nearly 12 yrs!!!) Bought a medium weight last year, from eBay & is the newer cut & love that as well.

I have both Bucas and Rambos.

I love the front fastening on the Bucas rugs - so cosy and no draughty gaps. They are well made rugs and regulate temperatures so you don't have to keep changing the rug. However, they are very expensive, they have leg straps which I'm not keen on (have converted mine to fillet strings), the fit seems ok with my mare but, the rug has slipped on a few occasions and isn't self righting. It also rubs her shoulders so I have to use a Bossy Bib with it. Oh, and when she comes in wet and I go to change her rug, it weighs and absolute tonne. I leave overnight in the heated rug drying room but it takes ages to dry totally.

I love all my Rambos - they are so light to handle yet really warm. Even when wet, they are light and they dry quickly. They have never rubbed any of my horses, they have never twisted round or moved on them. The front fastening isn't as good as Bucas but reading back, it would appear to be the only minus about them :)

Overall Rambo gets my vote.

I have the Rambo Wugs in all three weights fantastic rugs only negative is the cost! My pony lives out and he has always remained dry in all weathers and warm in the snow. The don't rub and TBH I have found they are the only rugs that fit him and don't rub and seem strong for a boisterous outdoor pony.

The belly straps also are quick release which are designed to give if a leg gets stuck.

Well I've never had a Bucas but can say that Rambos are fantastic rugs. Expensive to buy but seem to last forever. I've got a TB and they fit him great. Never rubbed or slipped.

Thanks all!

I just learned that sadly-the Rambo Wug doesn't come in Anna's size. So will be going for the Rhino Pony Wug for Anna instead. Have a Bucas Freedom lite on trial for her, doesn't fit :( Going to see if the next size up for that is available.

Simon's Bucas Power lite was too small & order for bigger one hasn't come in yet so for the time being he is in a Horseware Amigo rug. That one fits like a glove so I'm happy about

Thanks again for everyone's input!

Ive had both - one thing I will defiantely say is keep your reciepts if you buy a Wug, I have had loads of problems with their customer services who wont do anything other than tell me to go back to them when i have my reciept for my rug (which i bought 5 years ago!!!) and then they will sort out my issue (which they have already accepted liability for!!)

other than that - I LOVE wugs and Im gutted that I wont use them any more becuse of their rancid customer service.(rancid = not getting anything at all towards a new rug, despite being told its a problem that they know about and lots of rugs have had it)

I also like the power, i like that i can take it off if its a nice day, and it doesnt matter if the horses get wet cos it wicks away the moisture rather than letting it sit there all warm and festering. With one that gets rain scald at her earliest opportunity, thats important to me !!!

Picked up a Bucas Irish turnout for Anna's size & have a Smartex ordered for her, and a Power ordered for Simon. Those will be for when it gets a bit colder.

Meanwhile, people keep asking me to update my own wardrobe
