So after my Rhino fiasco (which was 5ft 9 but too small...) i bought a 50g Rambo wug but it is also tight at the front!! It has the ring/two clip attachment (v-closure?) and I need a chest expander. However, they dont exist for this style so I thought I would hit the forum to see if anyone has any genius ideas for chest expanders for these rugs? Its so frustrating, it would fit really will if the front wasn't so narrow. My pony isnt even particularly wide! I did note on the HW website that this rug is for "narrow horses" which I didn't realise, but as hes not particularly chunky, I thought we'd be ok. Anyway, anyone managed to create a chest expander for these rugs who can help?! Even thought of contact rug repair service to see if someone can alter it.....

I’ve just had exactly the same problem with a 50gm Amigo. B’s original 6ft Rhino was so big it gapped on the chest so I bought the Amigo in 5’9” and it’s way too small. Bought an expander and it looks ridiculous. He’s a proper stamp of a Connie but has quite a narrow chest. I’ve now got him in a 6ft older Rhino I bought second hand which fits perfectly and no longer slips to the right.

I love Horseware rugs but I wish they wouldn’t keep messing around with the cut and sizes. He’s got a Rambo stable rug which absolutely swamps him so that’s another brand new rug which has never been worn.

They don't fit my Arab's at all the Amigos I had constantly slipped and gapped at the neck so I sold them in the end and won't buy anymore.

Its so frustrating isn't it! I have been staring at picture of the rugs and I cant see how I could adjust it. I have a purple and green wug, and that is fine - plenty of room at the front but its 200g and I think he'll be too hot in it atm. I love them too, but the sizing seems so random. The 50g rug is fab except for the front.

The Rambo chest expanders on ebay are for the standard closures that just go straight across, this rug has a single ring that both clips go onto.

I’ve never figured out a really good solution to expanding that style. If you just need a little bit you could try adding in an extra clip (double ended dog lead type clip, carabiner with something to cover the fastening or a short piece of strap sewn / buckled in a loop x2 (one at each side of central ring) with a ring threaded through to clip onto are some ideas I’ve mused over). I did use an extra on one for a while & it sort of worked but it’s got a bit beyond that now with mine so I got a new rug!

Do you have a saddlers near you that do repairs and alterations? All I can think of is that you ask them to lengthen the straps that hold the ring in place and, to keep it level also the ones holding the clips. It depends how much wider you need it though, this may not be enough.

It's interesting to hear this about the wugs, I've got a couple of Rambos with detachable necks and the V closure and they're excellent on my chunk.

This is sort of what I have been thinking by I think it could end up with too much hardware!

@Tiddlypom mmm, mine looks tighter than that. I am wondering if I should have gone 6ft rather than 5ft9. When my boy puts his head down, it looks like its cutting into his chest. I think I need to rethink the rug again.... Back to Ebay....
