Anyone had to do theirs recently and at what cost? My box looks like it needs the ramp re-doing before I sell it and I've been quoted £1200, it's a side ramp on a 3.5 ton leyland daf.

Hiya,

I had a new floor and rear ramp on my Leyland in 2009 at a cost of £1000, they did a superb job, the cost included the heavy duty rubber mats for horse area, its a 2 horse lorry to give you some idea. I'm guessing upto £500 now for a ramp. I'm in Reading so also depends on where you are in the country!!

Sorry when I say ramp re-doing I mean the whole ramp as there's a problem with the metal rusting near hinge. Still compared to yours it sounds expensive! I'm selling it after so I want to do it as cheaply as possible. I'm in Lancs.

Find a local guy to do it, not a big firm, I go to a small one man show near where I live and he does what needs to be done, I recently had the hinges changed on my transit and that was £40, I know you need more doing but there are way to patch it, with out replacing the whole thing! Esp as you want to sell. you could sell and just point out what needs doing!

I had some work done on my last wagon, nothing to do with the ramp though by Regent Horseboxes. They are in Lancs and they were very reasonable compared to the horsebox builder.

Thanks for that Louby, if he can't make it any cheaper I'll try ringing them. The ramp was re-done 2 yrs ago with marine ply so it seems silly to replace whole thing when just edge of ramp is rusty, plus I can't afford it as it will cut into the money I'm saving for going to uni in September.

You could always try and sell it and be honest and say the ramp needs replacing and price it accordingly. Worth a try

You could try evolution horseboxes near Blackpool. They build 3.5t boxes so they would be able to give you a price. Your quote does sound a lot to me. I had a 7.5t wagon ramp built to take big IDs and we paid £600 from a Cumbrian coachbuilder (it was a couple of years ago though).
