Hi,

I posted a while back re: ranch holidays in Montana/rockies for my 30th next year. We have finally had the leave list out and I'm looking to book off approx 20 to 28 days and was planning on going either june or early july and if money would permit maybe stop off in another place near by.

To thoughs of you who have gone or looking to go would u recommend this time of the year?

Many thanks
Ruth

P.s. I need to give the leave list back tomorrow and already getting gip. Any and all replies gratefully received.

I went in Colorado a few summers back and it was brilliant!

Tacking up was a bit of a job as wasnt used to the weight of the saddles!

The horses are all saintly. It was pretty hot in Colorado but that was in the desert type area

Agree with Burton, think it'll be ideal in Montana that time of year

I was only there for 3 days in July/ August

We were going off on a bit of a road trip around las vegas / grand canyon / LA so only stayed there so I could get my horse fix

Thanks all for your replies.

When booking it did you go through a travel agents or book on line?

If I were going to try and visit another place maybe nearby where would you recommend.

We booked through a travel agent, can't for the life of me think what the name of the place was! Hummingbird something... or maybe not

Sorry , really awful at remembering names/ places. There are tonnes and tonnes of places / ranches so I couldn't really say to be honest

Our one had lovely little wooden huts, only about 5 of them and you had a small table / storage area downstairs then had to climb up a ladder to your little upstairs sleeping area. Then off in the morning to the breakfast house and sitting around outside

It was fantastic

Thanks I am also going on my own I've always wanted to travel but never had the chance with one thing or another so its now or never. :-) Plan is to take lots of photos and make friends.

I could just pop into a travel agants at least its a start and email a couple of ranchs.

Thanks again.

I'm so excited

ahh good luck, I always wanted to go on the big cattle drive.

Just after I found out I was pregnant I burst in to tears watching a documentry on it, reality hit me that I wouldnt be able to go for a very long time.(I also wanted to go for my 30th which was Jan just gone)

My plan is to teach my other half to ride and maybe just maybe he would allow us to go for a honeymoon (we aint planning on getting married yet though lol)

If I was single and didnt have my gorgeous little 2year old I would be tagging alolng lol.

Hope you have a lovely time xx

Hi My friend and I went to Colorado about 3 years ago in July - it was really hot during the day then went really cold in the evening. We were very high up in the mountains though. It did rain early evening every day, heavy rain but for only a short time. I booked the flight and ranch myself sepreately as it worked out much cheaper at the time due to the dollar exchange rate to do it this way rather than book a package holiday. The site I booked the ranch on was ranchweb.com, we decided what facilities we wanted then I emailed thea= shortlist of ranches direct to ask specific questions. We went to a dude ranch called Elk Mountain and it was a fabulous place, had the time of our lives, would love to do it again.

I went to Colorado in June 07. We used 'in the saddle' to book and it was amazing. id go back in a second if i could afford it. PM me if you want piccies etc
