Ranch holidays any suggestions of websites or good places that you could recommend? Me and a friend are considering one this year both capable riders, but don't know where to start?

It might not be quite what you're looking for but I went on a Unicorn Trails 7 day holiday to Poland a couple of years ago that was brilliant, really well organised, good horses, range of riding etc. I know that they have other options in the Americas and Africa too.

hope that's of use/interest :D

If you look up In The Saddle they have a range of holidays including different types of ranch ones. Their website would give you a good idea of what's out there. When I ride abroad I worry about standards of horse care and welfare, but because this company displays all reviews (good and bad) on their website you can get an idea of which places are okay.

I sound like an ad, I'm really nothing to do with In The Saddle ;)

Far and Ride are a really good company as well, they have a lot of experience and will help you pick a the right holiday for you.

Steorra - Do In the Saddle really display bad reviews? I used to run a youth hostel and the agencies would not display bad reviews as actually, as the owner of the property I could sue the agency under some libel laws. I think it's similar as to why you can't write anything bad about people on the forum. If I wrote something bad about you on here, IPC would be the one you could take a claim against, not me! How mad is that?

They certainly used to - perhaps they don't anymore. They used to make quite a big deal of it on their website that they published every review, but I can't see where it says that now. A shame if they've stopped as it was really helpful!

They're brave if they do! In some ways I agree that it is helpful, but having been on the receiving end I know that you can give people the world on a stick and they will never mention how great you are, but if a customer is unhappy for any reason whatsoever they will tell every man and his dog how awful you are.

I think a better system is (like the hostel agencies do) to contact the owner in case of a bad review and try to find out what happened, if you get one bad review out of 100 clients it's obviously a one of, if everyone is complaining then just pull the holiday from the website. Why would you advertise something rubbish?

Have a good read through tripadvisor website. Also depends what kind of holiday you want. My friend went on a cattle driving holiday and said it was exhausting and she and her horse were exhausted every day. They slept in shacks.

We went on a ranching holiday and it was lovely, riding everyday as there were three rides a day you could choose how long you went for, plus all the other things to do like lessons and competitions.
