I would have taken this big lad....I temperament tested him for a rescue, he is a lovely typical akita baby bear.
Excuse picci, I left OH t take a picci of him and return him to the kennels, he had to tie him up

as know one else there.

Never mind....hopefully he will get a nice home.

He is about 10 months

he was apparently passed from a brkoen relationship to some other spiv and he ended up in the pound.....everyone is being stum about the inbetween, he has a fab temperament he is cryptorchid, I have a feel when assessing him

he is ok wit other dogs too got a little dominant at play time but was easily reprimanded.

I could put him on our site but we could not offer back up(if he was returned) as we are packed ad dealing with alot of unrelated issues at present

I rehomed Elmo but he may be returned so if I took him it's my luck elmo would come back and I would be up sh!t creek for space as still have other dogs being assessed.

He is a big lad isn't he
grin.gif

Yep Elmo was the akita x husky....he went to his new home on Saturday....fingers crossed he will stay there....I could not have asked for a better home to be honest so I think he will.

Gosh he is gorgeous!

My Landlord has an Akita X Boxer called Digger. They got him from a rescue when he was 11 months. He was given up as aggressive, but he is soooo soft I can't believe it, he is teaching Otto that playing with other dogs is fun and he is so gentle with him, it's lovely to watch!

Looking at that picture I can really see the Akita in Digger, he just has the Boxer ears and colour.

Oh I do like Akitas, but they're big powerful dogs and in my limited experience need an experienced hand if they're not to become dominant.

They do seem to be rather a fasionable dog at the moment amongst council estates, we have a few round here along with the obligatory GSDs and staffies.

My friend had a bitch who was soft as mush, but you could just tell, she'd take the pee given half the chance.

I know nothing about Akitas - but with a coat like that presumably they lived outside orginally did they like huskys? Do they cope alright in a centrally heated house?

To be honest they don't do well in heat they have a superbly thick coat but the short coats like him do better than my long coat who will sit in sub zero areas to keep cool, they are pretty laid back aloof dogs, quick to house train and quiet around the house they would actually love nothing better than to lie in the garden all day long preferably under a bush
grin.gif

But obs they are strong(beyond belief), naturally dominant and willful dogs esp the males, so should not be amongst numpties

Lovely boy but what a story bless him people should have to pass a bloody exam before they are allowed to take on dogs

He apparently originates from Wales
crazy.gif
the couple who bought him split and sold him and from there Im asuming he got into the wrong hands and he ended up with the dog warden up here
crazy.gif
then to the pound, akita rescue are at capacity but are desperately trying to help rehome him hence me doing a temperament test.

I am keeping my OH well away from this thread, if he sees it i think he would hunt cayla down and steal the pooch!

Just messing.......would be nice to see him get a nice experienced capable owner though

Gorgeous looking lad, from my limited knowledge of the breed he looks like quite a good specimen, don't suppose he breeder is traceable? Such a shame that akitas seem to be becoming the latest chav accessory

Seem to be... Just wait for Lasse Hallström's latest film "Hachiko: A Dog's Story", based on the true story about the Akita who used to leave the home in the evening and go and meet his owner when he came home from work, at the Shibuya Station in Tokyo. One day at work, the man died and his dog was given away but Hachiko escaped and for 9 or 10 years, he came every evening to the station to wait for his owner.

Let us just hope that most breeders of Akitas, not only have something inside their forehead but that they are actually capable of using it too! Otherwise it will be as with Lassie and others before, all that will matter is if it looks like the correct breed and can reproduce itself, while all other requirements are forgotten/flushed down the toilet, faster than I can sing Money, money, money, always yummy, in the dog breeding world!

***Imagine myself sometime the next year***
"You say you want an Akita after seeing what movie?
