My boy has had allot of time off recently and I worked him on the lunge for the first time in a long time on Saturday, Only for about 10 min, walk and trot. He came in yesterday with a lump on the inside of his front cannon bone just below the knee, It isnt swollen or hot and does cause him any pain, he is not lame at all. It is on the part that his boots cover so he cant have knocked it while been worked. He could of kicked himself inthe field last night but its just strange that its not warm or swollen...Any Ideas?

What did you do with yours? I see pound signs when people mension the vet as they've more than doubled the call out charge due to petrol prices!

Any advise on how to deal with this would be brill. Also will a splint effect his performance? We do quite allot of show jumping. He's 12 years old

We've got a 6 yo and the same thing happened to him. Huge splint on near fore - wasn't there one day, then it just appeared (presumably he "did it" in the field?). Anyway, like yours, he's had no signs whatsoever of heat, pain, lameness etc (so I didn't call the vet and the splint has not been treated) either at the time it appeared or subsequently. He's working perfectly well and soundly. Okay, so if he was a show horse (which he isn't!) then his career could well be over, but in this particular case I can't see the splint affecting him in the future at all - his destiny (hopefully) is to do a bit of Working Equitation.

Splints can be painful and debilitating to some horses, but if your horse, like mine, doesn't seem to show any negatives from it, I really don't see why he can do plenty of SJ in the future (but I guess that we're the luckier ones!).
