Hello,

A month ago my girl randomly over night came out in loads of little lumps all over her body, especially around her belly. Waited a week to see if they'd go down which they did a little, but then came back up again, vet called, agreed it could be some allergic reaction, steroid injection given - lumps still there!

They are definitely not heat bumps, her feed was changed to Happy Hoof chaff, high fiber cubes and micronized linseed so I thought it was this, so tried leaving one out then the other, lumps still there! Has anyone had the same problem?...am at my wits end now, they don’t bother her, she’s not itchy and they come and go as they please!

What do you rug her with after a ride and how long do you let her cool off for?

Are you feeding lots of carrots? They are high in sugar and that can do it. I would cut all hard feed and just feed a handful of nuts and some chop and Epsom Salts and after a few days I am sure they start to go down.

She usually stands with out a rug for about 20 minutes, shes a very warm horse and fully clipped, then she has a med weight stable on.

She hardly gets fed carrots, hmm might try the Epsom salts!

Hello try propell + by equine America it worked wonders on my horses mysterious lumps , they do a month's supply for around £10 , I used 30 ml for the first week once aday recommended by equine America then dropped to the maintenance dose of 15ml . The lumps went down within days . Have a look on there Web site for product info . Hope this helps x

A horse's metabolic rate can stay elevated for more than an hour after exercise.

You need to allow her much longer to cool before you put the non breathable stable rug on her.

If you have a fleece or thermi-type rug then put that on her for at least a couple of hours after exercise. Then you can be absolutely sure that she has cooled down before you change the rug.

Just because they are not sweaty does not mean the horse has cooled down.

This is worth a shot and if the bumps remain then you can rule out this cause.
