Why is it that dressage and SJ are seperate disciplines up to international level and yet to compete internationally (or at any high level really) at xc you have to event and do dressage and SJ too???

Why aren't there international cross county comps??? You could have the best xc horse in the world ever but it might not ever get to compete at the top level xc if it wasn't also a decent dressage horse????

Told you it was was random!

I think the problem with it would be if it was just XC as a single phase, it would have to be against the clock, as there are bound to be many clears.. this would encourage people to push their horses too hard and fast, which would be v dangerous! (thinking horses/riders with broken necks)

I'm guessing it is mainly a safty issue...........Dressage giving the control and SJ proving the horse is careful. I don't know.....just a thought.

This is one thing that really does bug me! Only because I had the most amzing horse XC but she would never manage to pull off a decent dressage test. Jumping wise who knows how far she could of gone? but we were stuck doing open Hunter trials and I did do some BSJA with her on a ticket, but not really my thing, ended up selling her as a SJer, and she is doing really well. (sorry rant over now

Ahhh, of course. That makes sense. So you'd need another way of ranking performance other than speed.

BE hold Jumping And Style events, indoor over winter, where marks are awarded for style of riding over the jumps as well...

I wouldn't waste your money doing those.

As for the speed thing - timed sections, works well in unaff competions

Just curious as I've never done the jumping and style thing, but what's your thinking behind them being a waste of money?

There was a programme on sky called Horse Power or something that followed these kids doing Equitation classes- seemed like SJ with marks for style etc

I think team chasing was developed for those with death wishes on cross country courses. Hahahaaha. (I don't think that goes beyond national level though, does it)?
