If you have a pony of unknown breed (like I do) can you show them? I know you can do little local shows but can you go any further? I guess they don't fit into any categories?
Like any discipline everything is divided up into groups, but if your pony is a cross or has a % of a certain blood ie arab, welsh, , then sometimes you can show then in that breed class, as long as the blood is over a certain %.
What classes are you wanting to show in/what level are you wanting to go up to?
there are also hunter 'type'classes, sports horse, and the fun ones, handsomest gelding etc!
Unless the pony is a registered M&M,or riding pony, or show cob material,or hunter etc then I'm afraid that the large county shows probably won't have any classes for you, but their are some larger type local shows that should have unregistered classes.
It seems a shame really that you can only show them with the right breeding but I guess that's what it's all about! Maybe I should start an "Unknown Breed Pony Society" and organise my own shows
I was told my ponio is a fell cross (he looks like one), but his passport just says Unknown. I like the idea of showing in hand, means my bad riding wouldn't matter!!!
If you wanted to show him as a cob you'd have to hog him and cut off his feather which would be a shame, and it would also depend on his height. Our local show has things like family pony classes, in which the pony has to be ridden by a child and an adult and must stand well to be mounted from the ground, show good manners etc. Breed doesn't matter there. They also have an in-hand 'driving type' class, which a fell type could do well in. He doesn't have to be able to be driven, just look a nice sort to put in harness, have a good shoulder and whatever. Look out for handsomest gelding etc. too
have a look on the british sport horse website. not 100% sure. but i think i can recall that you are able to register a horse with unknown breeding.
that would allow you to compete county level hunter and WH. http://www.sporthorsegb.co.uk/
also check the show horse assoc. formaly british show hack & cob website their rulings may be the same.
There are loads of 'local' shows that are actually at really nice venues, with lots of entrants. Botcheston was really small - especially this year with all the rain. I think if you wanted to do some more showing, you could find some nice loacl shows to go to. I think he'd do really well M&M and there are loads of fun classes you could enter.

M&M's should be purebred and registered. you can get away with unregistered at smaller loacl shows but if it isnt purebred or doesnt look purebred then you will most likely be propping up the wrong end of the line.
There are loads of classes you can do with an unregistered pony of indeterminate breeding. A 14.2 and under class does not always mean show ponies. Cob TYPE classes cater for the cobby pony type. hadsomest gelding, best mane and tail, tack and turnout, equitation, family pony, riding club pony, driving type, loads you can do!
You can compete in many affiliated classes just not Heritage or Mountain and Moorland classes with BSPS . you would need to register with the society and then enter classes dependant on your age and your ponies height and type.Shows from local to county level.
