Ok...without getting third degree off anyone who may know what it's about....I tentatively ask....how would you know if you'd chipped a bone or not [as in human]? Like say, the big bone down the front of your lower leg.....

And, if you had done that...what the course of action would be generally, say for a Doctorphobic person?

Hypothetically of course!

Thanks in advance!

Edited to make horsey for NL....said possible injury could be caused by say for example a nice 17.3 standing on your leg...or something similar...

:)

The answer to this question is u can't know without x ray But if u can walk on it and the sore bit is on the middle of the bone and not near a joint then it'll most likely heal on it's own anyway. If it was chipped you'll develop a lump in that area over tome ( weeks/months). If you can't weightbear or find it v v difficult to weightbear ( be honest with yourself) then even if you're dr phobic get yourself down to a and e and get it looked at

My sister fell off her mare years ago jumping a drain, and the mare stood on her leg, chipping a bone in her leg, the bit between her knee and her ankle, it killed her for a few days, but sorted itself out. now, she did have x-rays, but as it was a chipped bone, nothing they could do!!!!Chipped bones tend to mend themselves!!

Hmmm, so, if we are making this horsey for NL...
My horse chipped a bone and we only found out about it last year because the vet was nerve blocking her for something else then x-rayed it. I think the injury predates me having her because in 10 years she's NEVER been lame on that leg and the vet said that quite a lot of natural healing had been done. However it was damaging the cartilage and she is moving much better now it's out. So not sure if a human would know, but my horse certainly never told anyone about hers and she was out competing novice dressage, show jumping opens, cross country, in hard work... for all those years until the vet finally made her confess! But maybe it's different for prey animals and predators...

Cool. Right so I'm not missing much lol. My pain threshold is rather alarmingly good when it comes to the possibility of Doctors involved, let alone A&E. Plus, my living is from riding and have breakers and youngstock for the season coming out my ears at the moment. So getting signed off from a Doc is not on my priority list at the moment.

Got past the wicked bruise stage a few weeks back, just have a horse shoe shape pinky shape still there now and now have a lumpy lower leg that's not too disimilar to something that you see on a kebab skewer! Lol. Lovely. No dresses for a long while anyway.

Cheers. Can it get worse, or will it just gradually heal?
