Day started well, 3/4 of the way to the motorway NMT pipes up "do you know the way?" ... "ish" ... "good, I've not got the sat nav"!!!! Fortunately it's not far from a yard I used to do clinics at, so we managed not to get lost!

Passed a guy, out for an afternoon walk, in a turquoise skirt and matching jacket, and trainers (yes really) just before we arrived, bit un-expected and rather random walking attire for anyone of any sex, but sort of set the tone for the day!

He warmed up really well, so well in fact we actually went in 15mins early - normally he is like a diesel engine and takes aaaaages to get warmed up and motoring. But today after a couple of quick transitions and some half steps each way he was ready to get on with it which was a nice feeling, and kept more energy reserved for the actual test.

Whilst I was warming up a spectator was chatting to NMT and asked where we found CS, "did your trainer source him for you?" and she was gobsmacked to discover he is a TB and not KWPN! She also said he looked a "lovely easy ride" which is the best compliment EVER as you all know how tricky he can be and how we have struggled with getting him 100% happy in the work. Clever faux WB pony :)

Went into the test and OMG it was airless in the indoor, so stuffy and still. BUT he stayed in front of the leg (nearly) all the time and was lovely and forward thinking in the piris (a fab achievement in itself).
He dropped me a bit in the initial 2/3 steps of the first trot HP and watching the vid back I can see the SI right is a bit deceptive; feels forward but in actual fact he just loses the engagement, so that's something to go and work on at home.

I do also need to develop the ext trot and try and get a bit more overtrack - again he FEELS like he's GOING but in reality he's just g-o-i-n-g! Not sure how much of that is a breed/conformation issue as opposed to training but I will try to carefully develop a bit more push from the hind leg with out running him off balance.

Piris yes are big but thats his call now, he does what he feels he can do on that particular day and it was nice that he stayed in front of me in the counter canter to change afterwards, which is one area he can go a bit *squeaky*!

I was REALLY pleased with this test! Myself, NMT and the spectator all guesstimated around 64-66% so I am rather disappointed with 61.31% :( However, I was aware prior to the test that this judge is prone to slightly off base comments/marks (needs to breathe more in the 3's apparently...). So score duly taken with a pinch of salt!

Thrilled with how confident and forward he feels, next stop Kingswood AF........he's peaked at the AF's last 2 years in a row so fingers crossed he can do it again!

And following on from the Fig comparison, here is CS from 2009 and from today! Just shows what you can do with training and patience!

Nothing on offer except a good nights sleep!!!

My god he looks phenomenal!!! Those first two photos in particular just scream WOW!!

The vid is amazing :)

He just looks A-MAY-ZING!!! :D

LOL'd a lot at the image of the tranny in turquoise..!

Can I be cheeky and ask what you are feeding him at the moment as he looks seriously fab.

Wow, he's super responsive at coming to the halt! And what a fabulous, bouncy faux warmblood trot - it will be interesting to see whether you are knocking up against his natural potential in the extended trot or whether he's got more in him. He's got a very bouncy walk for a thoroughbred - out of interest, did you train that or is it natural?

Really well done on the positive test (and bystander comments) :)

thank you, after struggling with his muscles/weight/energy for so long i am SO pleased-he's on 2 scoops (dry weight) of havens slobbermash, 2 coffee mugs charnwood linseed, and then i use 1.5 scoops of winergy high energy as the chaff/fibre part of the feed to stop him bolting it and to top up the energy levels again.
I cant reccomend the Havens enough, if you have a horse that needs more weight and/or energy its absolutely fantastic, his coat is better, his muscle tone is better, his ulcers are better, EPSM better, its been a miracle feed for him :)
if you need energy and less condition the winergy high energy would be the better bet. Fig is on the winergy condition (as he needs NO more buzzy energy lol!) and again cant reccomend them enough, really top quality feed that does what it says on the tin.
He's also on Egusin SLH for ulcers and Alcar for the EPSM and i think we have finally got that balance right too, its all just come together perfectly.

thank you :proudmum: ......the walk, he's always had a super walk, clear 4 beat NEVER goes lateral even if he is a bit tense/tight, good overtrack etc but the work on the pi/pa has taught him to stay more in front of me in it and not go to sleep/go sight seeing!!!! when he's in front of the leg it has that lovely ping to it :)

i think he's got a bit left to give in the trot, he's so idle naturally he wont ever give that last 10% without being asked so im going to do some careful work on it, using the piffe to *gather* the hind leg and maybe gently tapping him on the croup within the ext trot to get him to sit down and quicken behind. We will see, what i dont want to do is push for what he cant do and either make him sour or sore so will just take it carefully and see.

Wow! That first pic is awesome!

The last video I watched of him was where he'd been a sod and you were having it out with him....so a massive difference!

You look like you can actually sit and ride in this one, and as a result you are so much stiller in the saddle.

His whole frame is more compact...he used to look quite long in the frame sometimes, with his loooong neck coming up and out and over, and sometimes looking like he held tension there, but in these he looks compact, like he's found his natural position...neck looks soft and 'chewy' of you know what I mean?

No way is that extended trot all hes got to give....he's not nearly trying enough in the ext. for that to be his limit by the looks of the video!

Aha - so now we know. CS is, in reality, a top notch dumblood sourced somewhere over the water by a top notch trainer :tongue3: for gazillions of Euros (oh, and he's easy peasy to ride having been trained by said top notch trainer and the photos of him ar*ing about aren't him at all....).

Seriously, he looks amazing and can see why spectator was confuddled. Defo one for a bit of publicity about how ex-racers can transform into dressage divas (most of the publicity is around the eventers) as never seen an OTTB who looks like CS does now (and Figgy of course!)

agree that he IS much more uphill and compact in the frame, but correctly from the hind leg :) getting his feed right has been a massive step forward as he's now got the correct energy and stamina to work correctly, in turn building up the strength to work correctly for longer etc etc!

fingers crossed the next BD mag will contain some good ex racer publicity.............................

He looks like a different horse! An absolute credit to you. It just shows what correct management and training can achieve. Amazing :D

I can't believe you were dissing the turqoise matchy match effort! :D

CS looks fab though ;) - gold OR boots would perhaps match the browband stirrup combo better ;)

Was about to suggest that you need gold over reach boots to match your other subtle bits! :p incredible achievement and with you, time and patience are really undervalued. Well done :)
