Rant about timewasters

I'm beginning to wonder if I attract them. In the past month I have had the following:

1. I'm looking for a "winter" field as my main field is a 10-month lease and the horses have to be off it during December and January. I had another field less than 200 yards away which they previously moved into over the winter but it's been sold

. I found an ad in the local Ad-Trader for exactly what I needed and less than 10 minutes from home. Yippee - told the people I would take the field, started paying the rent straight away and put my own locks on the field. I explained that I didn't want to move them just yet, agreed that owners could graze their pony on a section of the field and gave them a key . . . . . barely 3 weeks later I was idly looking at the Ad-Trader site again and was amzed to see TWO new adverts for "my" field! They did state "summer grazing" and "until September" but - hello, I'm paying for this field . . . I ring owners to find out what's going on. ". . . . but you said you didn't want it until the autumn . . . " says owner. "Yes" says I, "but I am paying for it so it's up to me when I put them on it". She could not seem to be able to grasp that she had LET THE FIELD and it was academic whether or not I had actually turned anything out on it yet. She became quite nasty and said that it is "our field and we will do what we like with it". Upshot was that I told them where to put their field. I was pig sick as it was exactly what I was looking for so I am still looking for winter grazing.

2. Put an advert on another equestrian website to sell some dressage sheets (all nice and laminated etc). Get reply from someone very interested and asking if I have a PayPal account? No. I don't. I replied that she could send cheque, postal order or cash if she wanted . . . . heard nothing more.

3. I answered two separate "wanted" ads on yet another equestrian forum. One wanted a 5ft lightweight turn out rug. I have just that and replied . . . yes, she wants rug, what's my address to send cheque . . . have I heard anything? No. So I sent another PM asking if she has sent cheque (post DOES go astray, after all . . ) . . . . nothing . . . . and she has been logged onto said site subsequently so must have got the PM.
The other wanted was for pony reins. I have a pair of rubber ones that came with a new bridle but I hate rubber reins so bought others separately. I replied saying I had these rubber reins and she could have them for a fiver plus postage (bargain?). Not even had the manners of a "no thank you, they're not what I'm looking for"

People . . . . I despair . . . . . .

Anyone else got any good timewaster stories?
 
Sorry, but tbh 1) sounds like miscommunication, 2) - well I would be put off by someone not having paypal and would not want to wait weeks for cheque to arrive and be cleared, and 3) yes would have been polite but who knows how many emails they have had, and also - how busy they are..?
 
1, There was no miscommunication. I was paying them for the field, monthly, in advance so they were getting their money. They had let the field - end of story.

2. Why should not having a PayPal account put someone off? Why should I have one? I don't "do" things like ebay and have only ever sold the odd thing. And it doesn't take "weeks for a cheque to arrive and be cleared". It takes a maximum of 3 days to clear and if they post first class it will there the next day.

3. If you're too "busy" to answer replies, then don't bother to advertise in the first place.
 
Same thing happened to afriend over a field & she had paid a whole 12 months rent up front - cheque had cleared & written contract so no misunderstanding, just greed on land owners part.
 
And actually, just to answer your points:
1) yes there was - because they clearly didnt get the jist of the agreement
2) it does take ages compared to instant payment and then posting, instead with a cheque you must first post that, wait for it to arrive, wait for it to clear, then wait for your item to arrive. One of the reasons paypal is so popular.
3) it must be wonderful to have so much free time on your hands as you clearly do

PayPal secure - do me a favour!! I lost £300 through PayPal...so no i dont use it anymore. But that is besides the point, it would have been nice for you to at least have received a 'no thank-you'. I answered a wanted ad for a saddle and didn't hear anything back which I thought was very rude.

But as Snow Pony said, live and let live!

nice, Manners cost nothing it takes no time to send a "no thank you" email no matter how busy you might be. OP also said the people she emailed were online using the forum so....?? not that hard really.

Also shame about the field

I expect they were maybe wanting to rent to more than one person? Hope you find somewhere

There may be numerous reasons the email was not replied to. These were not considered. Additionally, I think being upset about this is petty. They don't know you and you don't know them. I would not expect an email back from a seller or buyer who was not interested. Had I received one, I would have been touched, but also assumed the person had a degree of time on their hands to be able to indulge in such correspondence

I have to say that I generally reply to emails even if it's to say that I don't want it - it sometimes takes a while though til I get round to it.

Think you're best just putting the whole episode to bed and forgetting about it - what's done is done - then focus on the things you need to get organized (like your grazing for the winter!).
 
I replied to an ad on another forum for a double bridle, I asked what kind of noseband it had (i.e flat, raised etc) - had a reply back, "It's a cavesson, you can't use anything else on a double" !!Didn't bother any further...
Also just sold item on ebay,heard nothing from buyer so emailed them, reply: "Oh I don't want it, my son bid on it by mistake" well thanks for letting me know then!
