Arrghh!

I put up an advert for a rider for my 4yo 16hh TB x. Replies I get? 14year old kids, and a woman who tells me is is "looking for a horse to improve her riding skills and hopefully one day learn how to jump"

Just....No!

*breathe*

Got the same problem with Finn -

"Yeah, I ain't ridden for two years as I have 'ad kids would he be any good/"

And the best one - "Can my two teenage girls part loan - I would have to drop them off as I can't stay though."

So basically you want me to be a babysitter while you get out of paying for riding lessons!

i got a girl who came to try him out and asked if she could bring her boyfriend (because he had to drive her....). i said i guess that's ok, but made it obvious i didn't want it to be a regular thing. when they get to me, she asks if he can 'have a ride as he's always wanted to try'...

i swear to god, he was 6'6" at least.... and a big fat porker. my horse is not a weight carrying 15hh.

i said no (obviously), and they both were a bit p-ed off (?!?!)... then... when she got on, my darling bombproof horse who has never put a foot wrong decided he didn't like her and broncho'd her round the school...

Don't worry - advertising for anything gets some unsuitable replies. Experienced some /very/ inappropriate suggestions when advertising baby hamsters as a child, these days we'd be talking about 'grooming' (not the horse type!) and all sorts

Remeber not to reply to those that are /very/ odd. No need for you to let them know your e-mail/number/whatever as that just prolongs the hassle. For well-meaning but unsuitable a polite 'no thank you' one-liner that you can paste to all replies is handy.

Arggghhhh

I know just how you feel
we are trying to loan a 14 hh jumping pony she is fast and zippy so not for a novice... and also state want her to go to Bucks or surrounding areas got loads of timewasters... novices mums with 10yrs looking for 1st ponios and people 100's of miles away GRRRRRRR and why do people text and not ring ahhhh annoying

Just breathe!!!

I had one woman who, as pony really wasn't suitable for her riding school daughter and riding school mum said, as we left the arena "Ah well, we'll just keep looking for a bombproof pony!!!"

I couldn't help it and I should have shut my mouth but I turned to her and said "you won't find one of those for £1500 with all tack!!!"

This was after I'd given her chapter and verse about our girl, and explained that you needed to be a competent novice!!!

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

where are you??

as for the 14yo.. im 16, and i would of rung up and spoken to you because:
i know i have minimal experience with young horses.. but i have helped with backing and stuff
i have a v. secure seat (i have a tbxarab)
light hands
patience
wilma is a really difficult ride, and im sure i would of been able to cope with a 4yo. even though wilma is 18; i have to ride her like she is 3

just go with the flow and you will find someone...

xx

Eeeee! Thanks guys!

Dopee - I'm in County Durham, a bit far from Norfolk!

Yes, when I was 16 I was a competent rider, but I still don't think that a 14year old who has spent her entire riding career on school ponies will be capable of handling a 4yo TB.

Nor will a 4yo TB x be suitable for teaching someone how to jump! Blumin 'eck.

I still replied with a polite 'no'
