My mum and I have rented stables and land off of the same farmer for 12yrs. Over the years we've shared the field with a few other horses, one was just like one of ours when he died it has heart breaking.
He died 3 year ago since then its just been us

until about 4 mouths ago Farmer stop me out on a hack to say a Quite pony from village was moving in, OK thinks us.

Fast forward to the last 5 wks is turned in to the pony from hell!!! It kicks, bites, runs through our winter fences, eats our winter grass. Anyway the list goes on and on you get the picture am sure!

Up until today we've just put up and shut up! It's now start bulling sandy last straw!!!!!
Mum's phoned them to tell them politely what their ponies doing and has done and they think we're lying Why The f**k would you lie about it.

He said he'd never seen it do that its a lovely soft pony! like hell it is. After 15 min of trying to tell him what been happening he said he said talk my wife about and put the phone down.

OOO big bar of chocolate for you.... how often do the owners come to see it...id probably speak to them the next time they are down or ring them when it next goes into the fencing so they can sort it out, otherwise ask the farmer to separate that pony from yours so that it cant hurt yours! Sounds awful, we have one like that at my yard, she squeals, kicks the walls and other horses for no reason, so she is separated, the owners are barely ever down so YO endsup getting her in.She is nervous and shakes all the time so I think something has happened to her or maybe she needs a routine of some sort.

Farmer will not take anything to do with it as its as DIY as you get.Ive aways manege the field in the past with other horses in it with no problem.

Think what we're going to do is fence our 3 off leaving them 1/4 of the field.
We don't want to be hard about it, we want to be fair but so far they've given as no reason to be.

That was what I was going to suggest, and if there is any comments as to why you have seperated their horse you reply with no I have seperated mine of words to that effect.

Sounds like you need a hug and a bar of chocolate

We've going down now to put the fence up . I just have this feeling its not going to be that easy. To keep it in its 1/4 and get its owners to waken up to what its doing.

We just want to be fair but put our horses first.

Its a case of a young pony in the wrong hands and we all know where that can lead!

I think you're sensible seperating yours off, you would regret it if yours got injured. If you can put electric fencing, even better, off mains etc. To stop pony getting in to yours. At least it can still see and communicate with other horses but at safe distance. Dont do anything for their pony as its their responsibility as owners to do it and as it will be seperated no extra poo picking for you : )

You have my sympathy. Until this year my 25 year old was in a field with 3 others of her own age and older. No shoes on any of them, no squabbling amongst themselves - bliss. Now we also have acquired a mare of about 16 which kicks anything in sight, and gets a zillion times worse when she is in season - it also has an attitude with people - came at me one day and meant it - luckily I'm not fazed by such behaviour, but the owner thinks she is the gentlest thing going, plus a gelding who has no manners and shows decidedly stallion-like behaviour (although luckily doesn't mount the mares). This pair recently cornered another new gelding, one either side and pinned him against the electric fence so they could have a good go at him, plus ran him ragged around the field for ages. The landowners aren't horsey people and although we have dropped subtle hints about quarantining new horses, not mixing oldies with younger ones and not having 7 horses on 3 acres, all they see are the £££s rolling in. It is hard to say anything without sounding critical of other people, and thus getting a reputation for being a trouble-maker.

some people with horses are like some parents with their children, 'my little angel would never do anything like that'
hope the fencing works for you.
even if they see the pony behaving badly, the only alternative is to fence anyway, so best just to do the fencing and hope it works.

I hope the fencing works!
If not I would suggest you tape the horses behaviour and show it to the farrier and say that you respect he wants to stay out of it as much as possible but you have been a loyal customer to him renting his field our for so long and you have tried to contact the owner yourslelf and sort the situation out but nothing is working and you ask him to tell them to sort their horse out.
