By the time I have finished work and get to the yard its about quarter to 6, so as you can imagine it is well and truley DARK. Driving to the yard at the begining of the week when I see a horse! Think SH!T loose horse when i actually see another one both with riders aboard casually hacking along the edge of the road!!! neither horses or riders had ANYTHING reflective or flouresent so its a mirale i saw them at all!

Why are some people sooooo stupid?! I mean I wouldnt hack out beyond 3.45 as its agetting dark and at this time of year light fades so quickly! Besides when I do go out despite the time of day Both me and my steed are kitted out with flouresents and reflectives!!!!!!

*RANT* Are some people just STUPID ?

Unfortunately a LOT of them are!

That winds me up big time! I always wear luminous and so does the horse I'm riding, it's just a stupid risk that doesn't need to be taken, and to endanger your horse by not taking all the precautions you can is just neglectful. The roads are dangerous enough as it is, why make it worse?!

Hmm, feel better now

The answer to your question is Yes, with bells on!

Ziggins, did you say anything to them?

They might deserve to be run over, but the hapless horses and unsuspecting driver don't deserve the consequences. I guess you just have to expect to meet idiots like that and be pleasantly surprised when you don't.

Yep - same thing happened to me last night at 4:40pm and I think I know where the silly cows are from too (and it's not the first time they have done this!!). Both were on dark horses and both girls had dark clothes on - no lights or High Viz and I didn't actually see them until I was level with them. They still had the main road to go on to get back to their yard too. I hope they are insured but lets face it I doubt it very much. Stupid bints.

Oh and this was in Stubbington (Cuckoo Lane for those in the know) - round the corner from Crofton Manor.

Maybe they want to learn the hard way, and also injure other people in the process, as well as give horse riders a bad name and damage someone's car, and make our insurance go up...oh and like all our nurses and doctors in our hospitals are not busy enough!

did I mention killing or maiming their beloved horse?

Especially so at rush hour. This is the third occassion they've been out in the dark (well I think it's them each time!). There's also two girls on cobs who are out in the dark without high viz etc riding through Titchfield a couple of times a week.

I just hate the fact that they have no thought for anyone on the roads, including themselves. I didn't ride at 3:30 yesterday because the sun was pretty low and that's quite dangerous too. Hohum.

i dont think some people see it like that, there the ones being silly. i dont think that some people want to wear these high viz things because they just dont look good enough. Most of the hacking where i work is roads (to get to any woods you have to go along the road) and never do i see any body with high viz things on. i think more needs to be done to get people to wear them.

What makes me so angry about idiots like that is that it won't be them that a car slams into and kills, it will be their horse. I personally believe that hi viz stuff should be compulsory. Who cares whether it looks "cool" or not, when it can and does save lives.

Maybe, just maybe, some day we can view this forum without some of us having come across these ignorant people.

I thought it was illegal to be out on a horse after dark without lights on?
Maybe I am wrong??
Enlighten me you lot??
I don't see horses out after dark without lights on (THANK GOODNESS) round here OR I would stop and say something to them I just see stupid suicidal cyclists down dark BUSY, VERY BUSY country lanes with no lights, reflectors, bright clothing or helmets on where cars and lorries speed along at 60 mph!
They are my rant!
