Rant: Competition Riding Jackets

Why on earth hasn't anyone made them out of stretchy material yet?

I spend hours training my horse getting him supple, loosening up my muscles. He jumps in a air padded saddle with double elaticated girth.

I on the other hand jump in a restrictive jacket that stops my arms going forward in a true jump position. I've tried bigger jackets, but then they don't fit anywhere and generally still restrict the arms.

Looks like I am going to have to go down the new fangled jump jackets (*please let them be stretchy*), or have one made of a special fabric.

Is it just me or has the equestrian competition sportswear got a long way to go????
 
The Musto jacket is a good in betweeny as it is soft shell, so waterproof, stretchy but traditional! I love mine

Have you tried the Kingsland Jacket? Had a look at one at Hickstead, its a smart jacket and is made of a stretchy looking material.

I've tried:

Kingsland, Pikeur, Funnell, Just Togs, ELT, Shires, Derby house, GPA, Dublin, Caldene, Eurostar, Mears (off peg), Saddle Craft, various unbranded

I know I am a weird shape, but there must be the "one" out there.

Haven't seen a musto though.
 
I adore my Alexander James jacket - never feel restricted in it. Its based on an off the peg size, and altered where it needs to be to fit me.
 
I've found 3 that are stretchy and machine washable...

Dublin Flex Ex, Caldene Performance and the Equetech Dynamic Competition jacket - all are just under £100. Now I just need to find a local stockist so I can try them all on!
 
Definately get one of the BSJA approved new ones. I never BSJA in my traditional show jacket anymore as I hate them!! The new ones are much much better, very stretchy.

IMO our sport DOES have a long way to go. Sod tradition, bring in comfortable, sporty clothing!!
 
Ditto KatB, I have a blue musto jacket and the new tweed one, both of which are stretchy, and both off ebay for less than £100, bargain!
 
Didn't know Musto did a tweed one!

Competition jackets drive me nuts, I've got broad shoulders, long arms and a size 10 body so finding one that fits across the shoulders and is long enough in the arm without swamping me is nigh on impossible. Need to get a tweed one and the only one I can find that is a decent fit is an RH Mears and costs the earth!
 
I have a very short body with very long arms, so I had to give up finding an off-the-rack jacket. I finally had one tailored to measure. I splashed out on the fabric---a cashmere tweed that I found on ebay---and it was well worth it. I showed the seamstress exactly what I had to be able to do in it, and she took it into account. I would definitely recommend this route to other hard-to-fit people that like a traditional look!
 
How about Alessandro Albanese called technolight, very stretchy, water resistant and smart!!!...Is made to measure so you can pick your colours etc.
 
Ooo thanks for the suggestions guys - I'm still looking for my ideal show jacket and so will be scouring the trade stands at Gatcombe trying to find and try on a selection of the jackets you've recommended!
