Right 1 year ago my OH best mates gf brought 2 horses from a trekking centre in Ireland, having never owned a horse before, to their farm.
She got kicked by one very mareish mare twice in 1 wk and couldnt catch the gelding. My oh asked me to help so I agreed, ended up taking the mare on to bring on and sell, getting screwed over financially and having nothing more to do with the girl.

When she was alone with the gelding things became much better as she wasn't afraid of him as she was the mare, she was riding him etc. etc.
One day last June he threw her off and from what I can gather shes not been back on since, now petrified of the horse, seems to be getting worse and worse.. This wk shes had blood tests done which have shown he is a rig....
The girl now wants to sell said pony to local trekking centre (known for their roughness and if no success they sell on for meat) or have him put down.

WHY does this happen, he could be a fab little horse in the right hands a real fun guy, but she now thinks his deteriorating behavior is down to him being a rig as opposed to her lack of confidence ruining him!
It just makes me so angry!!!! She then plans to take another horse on loan, which I can see ending in disaster!! :(
I now feel guilty as she is telling my OH she should never have sold the mare, who was nervy, big, baby, but is now in a wonderful home where she is thriving :D .

Why do people like this get away with things like this????

If hes a rig why doesnt she have the retained testicle removed (i know it costs money but surely worth it in this instance!)? I know what you mean though, but does she at least care for him correctly?

I know how you feel I've been in the train wreck situation before now, it's so frustrated because you can see it all unfold in front of you but theres nothing you can do to stop it as these type of people just will not listern, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and in the end the horse suffers it's just not right!!!!

Because its cheaper to get rid of it and move on  To an extent, its very overweight and still gets fed every day, had her OH spend hours and cash on stables and brought it in for about a wk before she got bored and it got turned out again, which is fair enough because it doesnt need to be in every day.

But if she actually cared, she'd move it onto a home where it could be dealt with properly. unfortunately I'm not willing to go there again, plus it would terrorise my old mare, and my gelding is very posessive and there would probably be a fight to the death. (he's not a rig but something not right!! )

Ruby 1512 yep exactly!!!
Poor lickle horsey!! :(

Nope because I am now detached from the situation and have to watch from afar, the worrying thing is the girl thats helping her is a vet nurse.... so should really be giving her options etc...
