Due to the snow thawing over the past few day all the beds have flooded at my yard. The roof is flat and full of holes and water goes right through it. They are all on straw and because the drive is so icy we haven't had many deliveries of late and are running low. Because of this the YO hasn't been mucking them out properly, just taking out the messes and leaving the wet in, and so all the beds are filthy and wet. The only thing there is to put into them is a soggy straw and hay mixture thing which none of us will touch as they are already eating their beds. I realise that it is difficult for the YO and if there is no straw then there is no straw, but yesterday she presented us with an invoice saying that she was charging £40 extra per equine (so £80 for me as I have 2) to cover the costs of straw and hay this month! I'm a bit annoyed at this as straw has been nonexistant or bad quality when it gets here and haylage is half mould. What would you do?

If you are not getting extra straw that is a bit steep. However I have used far more hay than usual since the snow. So far we have gone through 3 large bales =£120 since Saturday 18th for 11 horses.

Beds are also getting dripped on from the melting snow. I am now getting fed up with the sound of water perpetually running off the roofs. Still on the bright side we now have running water on the yard again.

I can see both sides to this. WHat i think has happened is that YOis getting a delivery of straw and its gone up in price added to the fact that the whole beds need replacing. i have had no deliveries this past month due to the weather been very difficult and the beds in my boxes are not great as I have to leave dirty bedding in as I cant get any fresh stuff.
hopefiully thus week they should deliver me some straw then its big muck out, all out and all new in. nothing i can do about it. its going to cost, i think the y is just covering costs. hay and straw has gone up in price.

I can see both sides. At the end of the day it's not the YO's fault that the snow has caused wet beds and I can see the convience in just skipping out whilst the weather's been this bad. I do think it's fair that you've been charged extra for the straw - as I've said before, it's no one's fault that the beds have been wrecked. Straw delivery will be high in demand seeing as not many people will have been able to get hold of it over the wintery spell.
