OK so enlighten me if you wish to the whys and wherefores, but I feel the need to express ..

Cycle Races.

Last night driving home down the country lane, I am met with head on with an "escort" vehicle with its hazards on - in the middle of the lane I might add - then followed by a hoard of lyrca adorning cyclists. So I slowed down, let them all pass - did I get a thanks NO!

So carried on, another escort vehicle, in the middle of the road ... I was told to slow down ... to which I didnt as I was slightly scorned by no praise for my efforts last time ..

So is this true Health and Safety - surely you must be blind as a bat to miss 20 odd brightly coloured cyclists in a big herd cycling in the road? Would it have cost anything to say thanks? Why do they cycle all together - do you get more points if you wipe a load out .. ? Why do they feel the need to hog all of the lane, do they have special privledges?

Now if I hack out down the road, on a live animal, I dont expect an escort vehicle, and I always try and say thank you - so why all the dramatics?

yes, loads around here at weekends, very arrogant and always ride double not letting anybody by.if horse riders behaved like this there would be outrage!

Unfortunately some horse riders do behave like this and whilst I agree with your comments HBII the some could be applied to horseriders who never say thank you to drivers!

Absolutely - there are a mixture of everything in life!

I have met kids/adults on horses whom scowl down their nose at you - which really hacks me off

.

I just wonder why they do that .. what makes them so special?

LOL!!
One of the first times I ever hacked my horse out as a 4 yr old I was met with the same scene - 20/30 cyclists hurtling towards me in bright lycra. Luckily for me he was very good....
Most cyclists are polite around here (well those I have seen). They tend to warn they are approaching behind and say thanks

What i dont get is why cyclists cycle in the MIDDLE of the road - makes it impossible to over take when we are in the horsebox at times and its bl--dy annoying

And when they race, you find all the empty water / lucazade bottles just disgarded in the road.

they are rude and i also hate it when they cycle up close behind me and overtake without any verbal warning - sending poor Bon Monster into a flat spin!

They are in a race - so don't really care what's going on around them I feel.

They do the same thing round B roads near us. Always the roads that are hilly and bendy so you can't get past. All it does is make cars behind me (I'm towing) think I'm the slow coach, then almost commit suicide overtaking me, and almost run over bleedin' cyclists when they suddenly realise that's why I was going so slow!

Now now stop it all of you! My husband is one of the lycra clad brigade who shaves his legs etc (weirdo) and is always careful to pass horses with an "Ok to come past?" type warning first.

I can't recall having a problem with them as a horse rider but they are a pain in the ass when they cycle as packs/pairs and don't signal etc etc.

Trouble is in Europe they completely close roads for cycle races so seem to think theyre entitled to it here, as if!!
