Rant! Why don't people handle their youngstock!

My friend boguth an unhandled 6 year old with colt foal at foot and infoal froma sale last year....All are now are dream to handle including new colt who has led from the first week...its really not that had to teach...yes they tend to ahve a bit of a moment at first but all it takes is bit of trust!

I hate going to sales and seeing the babies pushed about...scared because they havent been taught a thing!

The previous horse she bought (and sent back) was a 3yo which had been handled since birth - or overhandled - having been led, walked out for 1.5 miles every day, taken to shows (and fed like a fois gras goose), result of which was two whacking great splints and a young horse that weaved like billy-o when she put him in the stable (which the seller had failed to declare:confused:).

A young horse which has been started badly is imo far worse to deal with than a young horse which has never really been handled.

i dont agree with over handling either that can also create a dangerous adult horse><what i think is>< if you are going to sell the colt/filly then at least have it leading and enable a vet to see it without stressing the thing out> and/or potential buyer can see it pick feet up ect, its not money for nothing fgs!!!!! You need to be able to show these animals off not just stand there leaning against the gate pointing at it saying" if you squint, bend down, turn your head on the side you can see it there it is in the distance!!!!!" come on!!!! ggggggggggggrrrrrrrr !!!! As also has been said it sooo easy to do just enough so that the heart rate of the animal isnt sent into oblivion by some touching it or the potential buyer/s dont need a pair of binoculars just to see it(SP)!!!!
