Why is it, when you ask someone an opinion of your horse ( in RL), all they say is "he's big"

I KNOW he is big but he has other qualities than just being tall

Billy is particularly leggy at the moment (in fact, he is all leg!) as is still growing into him.

But he has other attributes!!

I wouldn't mind at all if they were to say something negative, but why focus on his height?!

Argh!!

Sorry for rant, just really annoying me :(

Lol, this is not a "say my horse is pretty" post i promise!

He is 17hh and a teensy tiny bit - but at the moment about 14h of that is in legs :o You can kinda see if from my sig, in the halt :)

That reminds me of an RDA rider, no matter which horse he was put onto, his comment was always 'it's a big 'un'.
Admittedly he did usually ride horses over 16hh as he was tall himself but it became a standing joke amongst the helpers.

He doesn't make you look tiny so he can't be that big.

Here is what I will say and obviously I'm only looking at pictures but he looks like he moves really well from the one where he's being lunged. very loose and expressive

I think people's idea of what is big is based on what they have themselves. I have what I would call a small horse at 16hh (he's built like the proverbial brick lavatory but that is beside the point) but he is one of the biggest on the yard. All the people who have ponies think he is huge. It's just what you're used to. I don't think by todays standards 17hh is freakishly big at all. Lots of WBs top out above that. It's all about perspective :)

He looks lovely I love a big one!!!!!
your legs do only come to 3/4 of the way down his belly but im 5ft and broke and backed a 17.3 - so i looked well stupid, but that horse was fantastic, such a shame he was sold, but he was bought as an investment - take no notice - they are jealous!

Wow he's big  oops sorry he's pretty :p lol

Actually I think he looks really well in the lunge pic, looks nice and relaxed & looks like he is moving nicely, also he is really nicely marked.
I have 2 'big' boys & I love them, the one who measures in at 17hh is the smaller one :D
