Hi,

Just wondered if anyone used rape straw horse bedding - bliss or nedz bedz and how much you pay for it/what you think. Thinkin of changing off shavings.

Thanks V much.

I use Bliss, I prefer it to shavings as i was using 2 bales a week of that. I use it with Rubber Matting and 1 bale probably lasts 6 days. I pay £5.90 a bale. If I had a choice I would use normal straw but unfortunalty my horse coughs. She hasn't even got weezy on this stuff. It does smell pretty foul though and I don't like putting it out in the stable as I find it hard to breathe due to the chemicals that they have sprayed it with.

I've switched to Nedz Bedz Pro from shavings as local store ran out, but I actually prefer the nedz bed!

£5.99 inc VAT I'm paying but worth it as I can use it to foal down on rather than shavings. I can't use prdinary straw either for horse-allergy reasons.

I definately would recommend.

I use Bedrap from Wessex which is the only chopped rape straw locally available - so at over £6 per bale it is expensive - but it is totally dust free which was my main requirement, and very absorbent.

use Bliss Bedding with mats and it's great, was using around 2/3 bales of shavings a week with one of my dirty mares, on Bliss she uses a bale every 4/5 days, my other 2 cleaner mares use a bale every 6 days, pay £5.50 bale and it's great, saved around £100 on my livery bill this month........ Very absorbent and easy to muck out.....

I use Nedzbed and I like it - it performs at least as well as shavings and I don't have the problems disposing of it. Topping up deep litter a bale lasts 6 days with an averagely clean horse - I paid £5.10 a bale last year, haven't bought any this.
Only problem I have found when I bought in bulk - the rats like it as well!

sorry to hijack the post but has anyone seen that new nedz advance? saw it in the show jumping mag and thought it looked quite interesting! Have used the nedz original and really like it in answer to your original question.

A friend of mine uses Bliss (having previously used Hunter shavngs) and she says she would never go back.

It does have a very strong smell when it is first put down though. One of her ponies has a severe dust allergy and he seems to be fine on it.
