One of mine has just been diagnosed with ulcers and I'm struggling to understand why. The only thing that's changed is this winter he has been on dengie meadow grass which has rapeseed oil in it.
Everything else is the same.

He will also starting when it comes alcar and vit e as he does have tight muscles alot and both parents are type one negative so rather than go down the muscle biopsy route which can also be negative I will put him on the diet and see if that works.

The rapeseed may be a factor, what did your vet say about it. Topspec to Ulsakind cubes my friend uses them for her horse who suffered from ulcers a few times. She also feeds some thunderbrooks chaff before she rides so it lines the stomach

I actually add rapeseed oil to my horse's feed (up to 250ml a day) as she has PSSM and have never noticed it causing a problem with her stomach - and she has been treated for ulcers. I'm pretty sure the amount sprayed on the meadow chaff would be just enough to dampen it down so I'd be surprised if it was in sufficient quantity to cause problems.

Could it be the muscle pain causing the ulcers? They are usually secondary to another condition.

I am thinking muscle pain which is why when it arrives he will be starting the pssm diet

The rapeseed is unlikely to be the cause of the ulcers.
Far more likely to be pain related

I'm probably just grasping at straws as I don't like to not know the answer
Thank.you
