Rare Breeds?

Sounds like my rare breed :D

I am a little bit in love with your mule - actually a lot in love :D

I have a Paso Fino, not really a rare breed but not particularly common in the UK. I also have Paints and Quarter Horses. Common as flies on a muck heap here of course x)

She didn't say native she said rare and jazzy, I think yours fits the bill. :)

Spanish horsies certainly count :D glad I started this thread!! Plenty of absolutely stunning horses!
I would love a CB, there used to be one a couple of doors down from me (waaaaaay before my time!) he lived in the garden :D

Got my photobucket working.

Here is one difficult/temperamental CB. My 17hh stallion. His mate who is in foal had a foot abscess and was on box rest, so we let him 'help' NOT with the mucking out. He had a choice of three fields but would not leave his lady. As you can see he looks a bit scruffy but there is no mistaking that kind eye - he was dead easy to back too.

Here is his daughter lightly backed aged 3 and turned away. This pic from last year. Long reined a few times. Saddle and bridle on, taught to stand still and this is 2/3rd time with rider on board.

And for anyone interested in my Shagya's a little fun You Tube with one of my mares and her colt, who is now an approved stallion. If you watch to the end you will see my doing Monty Roberts with my CB stallion. I am off camera and he is following me to the yard.

Wow your stallion is stunning and love the youtube clip of your Shagya's.
Beautiful place you have there in France! Whereabouts?

Dear Cambrica,

We are in Maine et Loire. The French refer to the doucer Angevine - the sweet/soft climate of Angers. We love it here. We are just an hour from Cadre Noir, Saumur and 40mins from National Stud at Lion D'Angers.

This year (for the first time) it will be possible to visit Cadre Noir and also the Three day event at Le Lion.

If you want a really horsey holiday, this is the place to come.

3-4 hours from the channel ports.

Stop off at Versailles and see the Criollo and Lusitano at the King's Stables - impressive riding.

Visit National Stud at Lion D'Angers, enjoy a carriage ride and lovely tour. If it is a race day dine at the prettiest race course in France in the restaurant with panoramic views.

Another hour south to Cadre Noir and don't miss the Museum of the Horse also in the Chateau at Saumur with its stunning views.

Visit Amboise, where Mary Queen of Scots spent her childhood and marvel at the Cavalry Tower a spiral staircase built for horses. Also Leonardo de Vinci's house.

Lastly Puy de Fou in the Vendee - the most popular tourist attraction in Europe. Jousting, chariot racing, dressage to music and a fantastic son et lumiere with superb special effects.

I am not a travel agent - just love this region.

I used to own an Equus Kinsky that came from the main stud in Europe.

Would love another one day however the pure ones are a bit like hens teeth.

If money were no object I'd also have a Suffolk Punch. :o:o

The puy de Fou is very good. The evening show called the Cinescenie
Is the most extravagant show I've ever seen with hundreds of performers and animals, it's worth visiting for that alone. I can't even begin to describe it. Totally brilliant +++

Although my girl is not a pure bred, she is part Caspian. the society have been desperately trying to find the means to register her as there are so few, but unfortunately we've come to a point where we cant go any further... :(

Who holds the stud book? Is there no way of registering part breds? We have strict rules for CB's but we do have a part-bred register and a 'grading register' where part-breds can be bred back to pure breds.

Thank you for your reply :D We would love to move out to Limousin but kids going through GCSE's. Went to Saumur last year for a couple of days enroute from Argentat. I have been to the Cadre Noir many years ago and Chantilly but there's alot you have listed that I haven't seen and I do love the Loire Valley. Leonardo's house would be a must as my OH is an artist/sculptor.
Puy de Fou sounds brilliant ... thats going on my 'to do' list. X

I Love Donkeys :p and am under pressure by my family to buy one with hairy ears ! (Portugese I think ??)

This is our Balad D'Ana in France with 'Junior' the sweetest donkey and another photo of a hairy eared Donkey. All rescued and owned by a really lovely French girl.

Oh my goodness the donkeys and mules are just awesome! I really want to own a riding mule one day and turn heads at dressage competitions for a laugh :-)

I guess haffies aren't that unusual.Camargues are one of my fave slightly more unusual breeds, not so unusual in France obviously!
